I understand fixing a deviated septum can result in a loss of a lot of blood and some Doctors insist on doing two separate operations. My Doctor said it would take 2 and a half hours to do both - How safe is combining both procedures?
This is a safe and common combination. Generally it is fine to do both at the same time. If there is extensive obstruction and damage as can be seen after severe trauma or cocaine use, the two may be best separated. Get several opinions. Get MRI studies. You will be fine. Good luck, Dr Commons
Hello all, I had a septoplasty with a rhinoplasty in march of 2010. I healed very quickly, in about a month. I began to realize that my nose is a bit crooked and it looks like there is a bit of a dent. This may be silly, but I'm not sure if it's part of my fault. I got a facial 6 months after my surgery and the facialist did pick at my nose quite aggressively. Could that have interfered with the healing of my nose? Thank you!
No the facial did not hurt your nose or septum. If you are worried about the appearance go see you surgeon. You did nothing wrong. Good luck, Dr Commons.
I have an excellent insurance (Kaiser) and already saw a specialist there regarding combined rhinoplasty/septoplasty and got a quote. However, I'd rather have a procedure with a more experienced and well known doc privately practicing. I know that the combined procedure should be partially coevered by my insurance but my question is: who would go about contacting insurance to cover this partial cost ? Would I have to do this on my own or would the doctor's staff help with figure out billing ?
You have Kaiser insurance which only pays for treatment at Kaiser facilities. Having any surgery outside that system would be totally out of pocket. Many plastic surgeons have accredited office operating rooms which help to keep costs down.
