Best Treatment for Persistent Redness Following TCA 35% Peel?

I had a TCA 35% over a year ago. Now I have persistent redness in my temporal region. A dermatologist at the Univ. of Iowa diagnosed it as Cholasma/Melasma and gave me TriLuma and sugggested bleaching it. Ive noticed that after a hot shower, the red areas become even more red. Ive read about persistent erythema. Opinions? Treatments?

A: Redness after one yeal old chemical peel

Time will take care of your redness.  The clue is the increased redness after a shower.  This is normal after skin has been injuried.  The heat from the shower cause the blood vessels in your healing skin to dilate.  This should go away in about 9 months.  You are most likely a slow healer in this respect and need to give it an additional six months.  If it persists see a dermatologist and discuss a possible laser treatment to tone down the redness.

TCA Peel - Why do I Have Facial Redness?

I have been performing at-home glycolic peels for 6 months now. Then used an at-home 12.5% TCA Peel, and a month later did a second peel, with 2 layers. My face peeled for almost a week. This was 5 weeks ago, and my face still has redness.

It isn't severe but I find myself using lots of concealer. Post-peel, I used SPF30 and moisturizer, I did not use anti-bacterial ointment as recommended since it would make my skin so oily under makeup. Why do I have redness? Can I resume TCA peels?

A: Redness after chemical peel

Redness after a chemical peel is normal.  You have insulted and injured your skin and as a result it is trying to heal.  It usually takes a month to 9 months for the redness to disappear.  In the mean time, leave your skin alone and help it repair itself.  Avoid direct sunlight,  add baby oil (which will replenish the skin oils and remove and flakey skin.   You do not need further peels and please consult a trained professional i.e. dermatologist or plastic surgeon for follow up.

Possible Deep Burn from TCA Chemical Peel Kit

Purchased 8% at home chemical peel. Instructions state that can apply weekly and so 6 days later I did because only had minimal flaking with no peeling. This time I added a second layer (making it 12.5% according to the instructions). The bottle was supposed to provide for 10 8% peels, and when I was done, the bottle was empty, but I think most of the solution was absorbed by the cotton ball I was using. Now two days later my face is still bright red with no hint of browning. I'm so worried.

A: 8% TCA PEEL to face

Your repeated treatment with 8% did not increase with each application.  You appear to be having a normal response to the chemical.  I would not do further treatments without the supervision of a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon.  You should be healed by now or after 10 days.  I would treat your face for the next few weeks with baby oil and restore the oils into you treated skin which should be dry and flakey.  Avoid sunlight and wear a  had.  UV light will cause hyperpigmentation.  I agree with Dr. Elam's comments.
