Septal Devation of 5-6 Mm - Is This Severe?

I didn't respond to nasal sprays and meds that my dr had given me so she ordered a ct scan of my paranasal sinuses and it concluded that I have a septal deviation of 5-6 mm and a nasal septal spur. Im always congested and even on the rare occasion that I'm not I have a hard time breathing through my nose. Will I need septoplasty?

A: Need for septoplasty

If you have trouble breathing (nasal obstruction) and also have a deviated septum, you will likely improve from a septoplasty.  Occasionally, an inferior turbinate reduction will also be needed. But if there is a fixed physical obstruction in the nose, correcting it should significantly improve your symptoms of nasal obstruction.

Can a Deviated Septum Cause Persistent Throat Infections?

Can the persistent throat infections be result of deviated septum? Do I need a septoplasty?

A: Deviated Septum and Throat Irritation

In my experience I have seen plenty of patients who present with a chronically dry, irritated throat as a result of having a deviated septum. If you can't breathe thru your nose properly, you are going to breathe thru your mouth more often just by default. This can lead to more mouth breathing at night, which can itself lead to more of a drying effect. This can cause you to have irritation in your throat when you wake up. It shouldn't be causing an actual infection. Make sure you get evaluated properly by someone versed in both ENT and facial plastic surgery.

Los Angeles Septoplasty Doctor Recommendations

I need to have my deviated septum fixed and change my nose. I live in Los Angeles and I'm looking for a reputable and qualified doctor who knows what he's doing. Does anyone have a recommendation for a couple of plastic surgeons, please? Thanks

A: Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles

There are many qualified facial plastic surgeons in this area. I can give you a personal recommendation for Dr. John Vartanian, a colleague of mine of who is a specialist in face and nose surgery. Good luck.
