Does Pulsed Dye Laser Permanently Cure Hyperpigmentation Caused by a Chemical Peel?

My mother had flawless skin that was unaffected even when exposed to the heat of the sun. but she got a chemical peel done 2-2.5 years ago. since then she has developed hyperpigmentation that doesn't go away. She has been using sunblock, Obagi creams and has been getting monthly laser treatments religiously. The pigmentation goes away but returns with even a single pimple or the slightest exposure to sun or heat. Will pulsed dye laser cause this persistent hyperpigmentation to vanish forever?

A: pulsed dye laser will not have much effect on pigment caused by chemical peel

It seems from your description that your mother is having a complication called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This occurs as a result of an inflammatory process in the skin. The pigment cells make more pigment, trying to protect the skin when it becomes irritated. If the pulsed sye laser is being used to target capillaries that will have little benefit by itself. If it is being used to target brown pigment it may cause too much irritation in the skin and then start the process over again as it heals.Generally a combination of topical creams as well as lasers are necessary, but this is a complex problem and requires real expertise on the part of the treating physician. My choice of laser in this situation is the Fraxel thulium(which is sometimes called the Dual ) .Both the laser treatment and the creams used must be very gentle and you cannot expect rapid improvement

Laser Treatment for Spider Veins on Nose

I'm interested in Pulsed Dye Laser treatment for spider veins on my nose (I have three that are getting larger). What might I expect to pay for such treatment? I also have the option of IPL, but my understanding is that Pulsed Dye would be a better option. Would appreciate comments regarding the two options. Thanks

A: Pulsed dye laser is excellent choice for treating spider veins on nose

The pulsed dye laser (V-beam is my choice ) specifically targets capillaries and small veins and the treatment parameters can easily be customized for each patient and actually each area of treatment. This ability to make the treatment match the blood vessels being treaed results in far greater succes and much fewer problems. I think it gives much better results in much fewer treatment sessions and with greater safety than IPL

Bruising Not on Scar After Pulsed Dye Laser, Was Is Treated Right?

I had pdl on a flat red mark between my eyebrows. After the treatment the bruise was beside the scar and the scar itself appears to be untouched? Is it possible the bruise came beside the treated area or did the doc not treat the right part of my face?!

A: bruising around a treated scar is expected and does not represent an unwanted reaction.

Bruising around a scar generally represents dilated capillaries around the scar reacting with the laser, which is a good sign. This will gradually result in the scar becoming softer and blending with the surrounding skin. This whole process however generally requires a series of treatments and several months to see results
