Biopsy result is 2mm nodular BCCpresent on deep and one peripheral margin. Carcinoma is composed of bland basaloid keretinocytes with peripheral pallsaded of nuclei. Due to a full calendar of raising a 16 year old daughter. I would like to wait until week of July 23rd to have my Mohs procedure done. I do not feel that I am emotionaly ready to go through recovery of my scar in January. In July I would have the privacy of healing that I do not have the luxury of now.
Although basal cell carcinoma is generally considered to be a "slow" growing tumor, the rates of growth vary considerably from tumor to tumor and person to person. While it is reasonable to wait 2-3 months, with a wait of 7 months, there is a greater risk that the growth of the tumor could be significant. I suppose the answer to your question would be yes, you can wait 7 months, but most would recommend you proceed with the Mohs procedure sooner, especially for such a cosmetically and functionally important location as the nose.
It is on my left cheek. I am 32 and I am in marketing and I am very concerned about how I will heal on my own if my skin will come together properly or should i just get the stitches?
A larger defect located on the upper cheek is probably best closed with stitches. A visible scar of some kind for this defect is inevitable, but can be minimized with a stitched closure. Depending on the tightness of skin in this location, a flap or graft may be appropriate for wound closure. Secondary intention healing (self-healing without stitches) can be a good option in certain locations, particularly where there is a concave surface.
If you are concerned about the final appearance of the scar, you may want to request consultation with a facial plastic surgeon for the wound repair.
I am a 48 yr old woman who had Mohs Sx 2 weeks ago. The incision begins at the top of the nose beside the left eye and goes down the left side of the nose and across the tip of the nose. A large portion of my nose is numb and the scarring is not pretty. Am I jumping the gun, or will my results get better? I am not ready to wear this nose even at my age. Thank you
The final appearance of the repair occurs between 6-12 months following the procedure. The tendency is for gradual improvement over that time-frame. As one of the responders mentioned, if after 6 months to 1 year you are unhappy with the final appearance, consider consulting with your facial plastic surgeon for treatment options including kenalog (cortisone) injections, dermabrasion, surgical scar revision.
