How Are Nipples Repositioned?

I had a Breast Lift with Breast Implants 3 months ago, 6/29. My surgeon mentioned revising my nipples by repositioning them more towards the center of my breasts. My quetion is how exactly is this done?

A: Proper position of the nipple following breast lift (mastopexy)

There are many techniques available to reposition the nipple and areola following breast lifts (mastopexy). Most involve either revising or completely redoing your mastopexy. The procedures available and best suited to an individual depend largely on which technique was used to perform the original mastopexy. This can be best determined by your current plastic surgeon. If you chose to obtain a second opinion with another plastic surgeon, it would be helpful to provide him or her with your operative records that describe in detail what was done during the original operation.

I know this is not the definitive answer you are seeking but I hope this will be of some help to you. Good luck I hope you achieve the changes you seek.

Average Recovery Time and Cost for Aerola Reduction?

How long does it take to recover from a puffy nipple reduction? I don't have any significant breast tissue underneath maybe a hard disc a little smaller than a dime. They are just puffy and stick out the slightest. I am in Southern California and looking for info on cost and recovery. Thank You.

A: Average recovery time from breast areola reduction may vary in patients

Hi Johnny

There are many aspects to recovery and the times vary from patient to patient and by the extent of surgery involved. On the average, a patient will feel pretty normal in a few days and should be able to return to normal non-strenuous activities at that time. The patient will however have restrictions on his or her activities for a few weeks and will not see the final esthetic result for a few months. For fees, most plastic surgeons will provide ballpark costs over the phone.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck on achieving your goals.

Nipple Surgery to Reduce Areola That Doubled in Size?

I'm 38 years old. I had my breast augmentation done back in 2005, but my areola have doubled its size. I'm considering an areola reduction but I'm not sure if it will be a good option. However, for sure, it bothers me a lot since when I'm wearing strapless or any other top that shows cleavage, my areolas are always showing. Please help me. Thank you.

A: There are risks and benefits of surgery to reduce large breast areolas

I agree with Dr. Chong that the best available treatment for your condition is to remove the excess areolar skin. A word of caution is that the scar around the margin of the areola is not always ideal and you could be left with a wide unattractive scar. Also, this may not address your concern regarding the areolae being exposed when wearing low tops.

An important measurement frequently used by plastic surgeons is the distance from the clavicle to the nipple or areolar margin. If this distance is too short then the margin of the areolae may be above the level of low cut tops or swim suits. The areolar reduction may not correct this. To obtain a realistic expectation of the changes you could receive I would recommend an evaluation by an experienced board certified plastic surgeon.

I hope this helps. Good luck in achieving your goals.
