Is Hairline Lowering a Specialty?

Hi! I was wondering if surgeons specialize in hairline reduction or is it something any cosmetic surgeon can claim to do? I just happened to notice some surgeons claim to perform the procedure but it is not on the list of procedures they do perform. I'm just scared that a particular surgeon might be messing around with me and I just need advice. Thank you to all who respond.

A: Hairline Advancement vs. Transplant. Who's the right surgeon?

Certainly there are surgeons who do a lot more hair transplants and hair line advancements than others.  In the Northern Cali area Sheldon Kabaker is the grandfather of this sort of work.   He's in Oakland.

It can be competative for cosmetic surgeons of all types and we all want to work, however, I don't think you would be mislead by someone who had never done the procedure.  That being said, if said surgeon can't produce some evidence that they have performed an advancement successfully and you're unsure you should seek another consult.

The advancment does require some skill and experience, so in that respect, yes you should seek someone who performs that as part of their practice.  An experienced surgeon should talk to you about all of your options.  I agree with the other surgeons on this page that hair transplantation should be discussed with you.

Best of luck

Forehead Lift Vs. Endoscopic Forehead Lift?

What's the difference between an forehead lift and an endoscopic forehead lift? Which one is better?

A: Endoscopic brow lift Pros and Cons

The short answer is that neither is "better", but both are useful for certain situations.  The minimally invasive Endoscopic Brow Lift  approach is ideal for most natural rejuvenation of the forehead and eyebrow position.

An traditional trichophytic incision is made just in front of the hairline.  This or a hybrid procedure (mix of endoscopic and open) can be very effective  IF

  • the hairline is too high and the forehead too long.

To best understand the risks and benefits of each technique, a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who performs both will serve you well.  Best Wishes in the New Year.

Will Forehead Tucks Help Make the Eye Area Less Droopy?

Someone suggested "forehead tucks" on each side of the forehead to make the area under my eyebrows and over my outer eyelids look less droopy. I had a blepharoplasty in 2003, although I was not happy with the results because there's too much scarring and my eyes are uneven.

Do you surgeons feel that the bilateral forehead tucks would improve my appearance? I have permanent eyebrows tattooed on, but will get them lasered off.

A: Forehead lifts can cause the eyebrows to be unnaturally high

My personal opinion would be to defer surgery at this time. Although the extra skin on the outside of you upper eyelids would likely be improved with a forehead lift, I have concerns regarding the final appearance of your eyebrows. If nothing were done to the eyebrows they could end up being unnaturally high and give you a look of constant “surprise.” You mentioned that they are currently tattooed and that you could have the tattoos removed with a laser. I am concerned that the laser may not completely remove the entire tattoo and you could be left with residual pigment in the area.

If you still feel you would want to have a forehead lift, I would recommend trying to have the tattoos removed first to see how effective this is. If the pigment cannot be adequately removed, you will not have to deal with eyebrows that are too high.

I hope this helps you with your decision. Good luck and best wishes to you.
