I’m a 45 year old woman who will be in New York beginning of September and Im planning to consult with at least 5 surgeons. Which surgeon would you recommend as a facelift expert for younger patients in New York ? I subtly want to lift the area around the jowls- I already tried hyaluronic acid fillers and do not believe in fat grafting.
47 is an ideal time to have a facelift because there is far less loss of facial fat and less skin laxity compared to someone in their 60's. Elevation of the midface and jowl with or without fat grafting gives a pleasing result.
While there are myriad techniques to accomplish this, a simple minimally-invasive approach with limited undermining and SMAS plication works well. If there is mild laxity in the neck, then the neck can be corrected without a separate incision under the chin and undermining of the neck skin. With less undermining, recovery is quicker.
In your effort to get a good result, ask your plastic surgeon exactly where the scars will be, for example, along the helix, behind the tragus, and under the lobule with a small platform of skin to replace the cheek flap without tension. Examine before and after pictures to see if the ear is in normal position or if the lower ear is pulled forward. Decide if the trade-off of a scar that is anterior to the sideburn hair that prevents the hairline from moving up is right for you vs. a less visible scar inside the hairline that can result in elevating the hairline.
I am 52 and had a full face lift and eye lift 2 yrs ago, the surgery took 8 hours and the right side of my face was quite bruised and swollen for quite some time. Now my right side is still quite a bit bigger than my left side, when I smile I look like a chipmunk on one side. Still have very little feeling in that cheek. Is there anything I can do? I did ultrasound for up to a year after the surgery. I also have very noticable scars on my eyelids. and the scars behind my ears still ache too.
Thanks for your question -
This sounds like there may be scar tissue from residual hematoma or fat necrosis.
The question is how best to restore balance to your face. This may include fat grafting to one side or scar resection. The key is to find a plastic surgeon familliar with facelift redos. (Something we see a fair amount of in our San Francisco office.)
I hope this helps!
26 days after mid face lift, I have a knot 1 inch in front of rt ear size of small marble.Upper mouth won't move, can't suck or pucker or say words with B or P good.Right eye still not blinking. Is this all same problem?
Thanks for your question -
It sounds like you are describing is a facial nerve weakness or injury. You should follow up with the plastic and cosmetic surgeon that did your Face Lift so the degree of this weakness can be ascertained.
Many times small amounts of weakness improves over 3-6 months. In your case it sounds like there may be multiple nerves of concern. In addition, inability to blink can create dry eye which can lead to corneal ulceration.
These issues should be evaluated by your surgeon. Don't hesitate to get a second opinion.
I hope this helps.
