Can the nd yag laser which is non albative cause any type of scarring? What are the vast sides of this laser? Can people who have had keloid scarring in the past use this laser to remove age spots or keloids them selfs? THANKS!!
Any laser if not used properly can cause scarring. Make sure a certified pastic surgeon is holding the other end of the laser.
I'm 34 years old and had a consultation for large pores, fine lines, and minor sun damage. The physician stated that his (Venus) Erbium yag laser was just as good, if not better than Fraxel. He went on to say the results were mainly dependent on the user of the device. How true is this?
Generally speaking, we would agree with the recommendation. The reason we prefer the Erbium over Fraxel is that it resurfaces 100% of the skin. Fraxel resurfaces only a portion of the skin. We have met with many patients that have undergone Fraxel treatments and most of them are disappointed with the results. Whether this is because of the expectations that were set prior to the treatment or because of the actual results, we are not sure. We do know one thing for sure. Those patients that are happy with their Fraxel results report 5-7 days of redness and swelling. This is the same recovery time for the Erbium resurfacing procedure. For the same amount of downtime, we suggest resurfacing 100% of the tissue (Erbium) vs. a much smaller % (Fraxel).
I made an appointement for the nd:yag laser for the under eye area, what are the results what I can expect, as I can't find any info. What is the downtime I can expect.Thank you in advance,Katie
Hi Poppetje,
There is not enough information in your question to answer it effectively. The Nd:Yg laser comes in a couple different varieties (see our post at http://www.realself.com/node/106564) and depending on your skin type and what condition you are having treated, the laser may or may not be appropriate for you and may or may not involve some downtime (generally there is not downtime with Yag lasers though).
If you are being treated for sun spots under the eyes and the laser is a q-switched Nd:Yg we would wholeheartedly recommend it. Whereas if you were being treated for dark circles with a long pulsed Nd:Yg we would probably not recommend it.
