I am concerned about the amount of fat I seem to have surrounding my navel, like a lump? and also a small indentation below my navel a little to the right. Also, the amounth of fat that is collecting in my lower abdomen seems to be increasing. I train for fitness shows and started 3wks post op but I was still 28% body fat, then got down to 16% for the show 10wks later and now Im up to about 21%. Could be my diet and training affecting the results? Is this normal?
Unfortunately it is not uncommon for people to get a small indentation after liposuction. This is definately a known risk of liposuction. Also, occasionally people have a little bit of fat around the belly button which is slightly more difficult to remove. I would go back to see your treating doctor. You can talk to them about doing a small "touch-up" in the area to help decrease the visibility of your issues. A small amount of fat can be removed from the belly button area and injected into the indentation to help smooth it out.
Also, large weight fluctuations may make the situation more noticable. When you are at higher body fat percentages, it will probably be more apparent.
When choosing doctors, it is important to look for a board-certified doctor with experience in the procedure you are receiving.
How painful is Tumescent liposuction if done under general anesthesia? Is it really a lot worse than doing it with local? I'm getting it done in 3 days (Friday morning and I have to go back to work on Monday).
Tumescent liposuction has an anesthetic in it which helps to minimize pain after surgery. General anesthesia will provide a controlled environment and short term amnesia surrounding the event. the combination will make this a very pleasant experience for you. If pain is controlled during surgery it does not escalate after.
Pain after liposuction varies with the areas being done but most people describe the sensation as soreness like after a vigorous work out.
I maintain a compressive garment with padding for 5 days after the procedure and without padding for 4 weeks after. When you remove fat cells with liposuction you are creating a space between the skin and deep tissue. The body likes to fill spaces with fluid. Maintaining the garment and limiting your activity during the first week is critical.
Talk with your surgeon about your return to work so that you are properly prepared to maintain the improvements you will recieve at surgery.
Good luck

There is no pain during the procedure since you are asleep. After the surgery there is some discomfort from the mechanical trauma during the procedure. Most patients complain of a soreness in the areas treated. The discomfort is similar to a tough workout. In my experience, most patients are back to work within a few days. With this technique, there is generally less bruising.
