How Many Types of Septoplasty Incision Techniques Are Offered?

Are there any benefits of one type of septoplasty procedure versus another type?

A: Septoplasty

Each septum is different.  However, about 90% of septums can be done with an incision just inside the nose.  Occasionally it is done with an external incision, but this is almost always combined with an open rhinoplasty.  However, with a septoplasty alone, this won't need to be done.  Using a laser to make the incision has no added benefit.

How Long After SeptoRhinoplasty Can I Begin Exercising?

I had SeptoRhinoplasty 2 weeks ago to remove hump and also correct the septum area. No osteotomy was done. I have been careful to avoid strenuous activity but the other day I inadvertently jumped quickly down some steps and just wanted to find out if the jarring reaction of running or jumping down steps would cause any issues with the septum getting displaced. Also is it ok to return to lifting light weights 2 weeks after surgery, is there any chance lifting weights can cause displacement.

A: Septoplasty

Generally speaking, the main issue with exercise it that it can increase the pressure in the nasal blood vessels and cause bleeding.  I tell my patients that they can resume exercises the next day as long as it is not too strenuous, use light weights with high reps and no heavy weights.  Full exercise resumes in 2 weeks and no contact sports for 4 weeks.

Hope this helps.

Septorhinoplasty Revision Not Right

Hi, I am 6 months post op from septo-rhinoplasty. I had no splint, no cast, no packing, just a dressing.

Septum is still deviated, crooked and breathing is more effected and noisier than originally!. I had alar grafts, dorsal lumps filed and a peice taken out of tip because it was twisted.

If you don't mind please answering as if this was final result, a year later, just so I know what my options are. Thank you.

A: Revision SRP

Please obtain a copy of the operative report and seek out a board certified specialist in the face, particularly noses, who can help you.  You will need a customized plan to attain the goals you desire.
