I have been trying to avoid the sun (wearing sunscreen and hats) since getting my first photofacial on Friday. I wanted to deal with sun / age spots. Today (Monday) I was in a work meeting for several hours in the middle of the day in a room that had a partial frosted glass ceiling. I now have a sunburn on my face. This is NOT what I was hoping for. What can I expect now in terms of negative side effects? Are there steps I can take to try to counteract the damage?
Continue wearing your sunblock cream and possibly a hat. The photofacial treatment is usually mild and superficial.
What's the difference between IPL and a Photofacial?
IPL stands for "Intense Pulsed Light" and Photofacial, Fotofacial and any other spelling variation are all just catchy marketing terms given to this treatment. The actual treatment consists of a device utilizing light to selectively target your skin to reduce redness and brown discoloration.
I was wondering how long I'd have to wait between Photo Facial treatments? What is the typical amount of time?
We recommend waiting 3-4 weeks between IPL - Photofacial treatments. This gives your skin a chance to fuly recover and heal between treatments. You can also wait longer between treatments but the results may not be as cumulative.
