Hi, I am Chinese and am concerned about having Fraxel re:pair treatment for my acne scars due to pigmentation issues. Has anyone seen good results on Asian skin without Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)?
Are the results permanent? I've heard good things about a machine from Korea called Collagen fractionated co2, anyone know about this one? Any information would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi,
We have successfully treated many asian patients with both Fraxel Restore and Repair. The key is proper patient preparation beforehand and after with an appropriate bleaching cream to avoid hyperpigmentation. The risk of PIH is higher is you are doing a more aggressive treatment for acne scars, but all PIH will resolve within several months. If you follow after care instructions carefully, you should not have much a problem with PIH. With Asian and Olive tone patients, there is a density parameter designed for patient safety recommended by Solta, the manufacturers of Fraxel Repair.
I'm thinking of having fraxed repair on my sundamaged chest area. What are the best settings and what pain relief is given?
Hi,
Fraxel Repair is fractionated CO2 laser at much deeper depths of penetration than other fractionated CO2 lasers. Currently Solta, the manufacturers of Repair do not recommend Repair to the chest since this area has less follicles to aid in the migration of new skin cells. Your best bet is to have several Fraxel Restore to the chest on a high energy which is much safer. I have both machines and what we typically do is Repair to the face and neck within the recommended parameters and Restore to other body areas including chest and hands.
I have the beginning of drooping jowls, but the part that bothers me most is the creping on my cheeks. I do not want to go through Fraxel Repair unless it will tighten the creping. Also I have very soft skin and wonder if this would lead to faster return of wrinkles after procedure?
I love Fraxel Repair for this indication. If a patient has creping due to volume loss in the cheek hollows, you can fill those areas with Radiesse, Juvederm, Sculptra or other fillers. However, the superficial wrinkles from crepiness are still visible. Fraxel Repair works by utilizing microscopic dots of CO2 laser to tighten the skin and the heat process stimulates new collagen formation. If you watch YouTube videos of Repair, you can actually see the skin tighten as the laser passes over the wrinkles. In the most recent laser studies, they have measured the amount of ablated skin removed by the Repair. We usually perform the recommended four passes over the entire face, and then focus on any problem areas such as mid face crepiness with additional passes of the Repair.
