I have sensitive facial skin with red tone. I have tired looking eyes; not big bags, just some slight wrinkling and sagging and tired look. Some suggested surgery, some injectables and the last doctor said Mixto laser. I'm afraid of all these, but won't the laser make me redder? Will it give me the youthful look under my eyes again? I'm 38 years old.
When you say you have "sensitive skin", can you tell me if you have been evaluated by a Dermatologist? Sensitive skin can mean anything from being prone to allergic skin reactions, rosacea, eczema, seborrehic dermatitis, etc. It is important to figure out why your skin is red first.
I think Mixto has been wonderful for the treatment of "sad eyes" when they are due to fine wrinkles around the eye area. Mixto is also a great treatment for overall wrinkles and fine lines as well as brown spots (sun freckles). In my experience, it does not make redness from any of the conditions above go away.
There are other lasers that can be used to effectively treat rosacea, and there are topical medications that can be used to effectively treat other skin "red" conditions.
I have a lot of hypertrophic acne scarring (my skin resembles an orange peel and I do not have keloids. My skin is extremely oily and congested and I do suffer with 3-5 pimples a week. Would Mixto laser treatment be safe, or will it worsen my acne due to oiliness or cause abnormal scarring since I am prone to hypertrophic scarring?
Mixto is a very safe treatment when done correctly for your condition. It can improve acne scarring and improve the "pebbly" texture of your skin. However, I would make sure that your acne is under good control before doing the treatment. You don't want to spend time and money improving your skin only to have new acne lesions cause scarring again. During the healing phase, many doctors will have you use a thick ointment or cream to the face, and these occlusive products can cause new acne breakouts.
I intend to go for the Mixto Laser in a couple of months. Right now, I'm using Differin nightly and Clindamycin gel twice daily.
I also use Benzoyl Peroxide 5% in the day. I'm taking once daily doxycycline too. Is there a need to stop using any of these before the treatment? Will Differin cause excessive thinning of the skin and put me at risk of more burns from Mixto?
I often continue all acne medications up to the day of Mixto treatment, then discontinue it during the healing phase. I would check with your doctor about continuing differin. In some cases, retinoids should be stopped 1 week prior to laser treatments.
