How Can I Avoid Wrinkles Until After 40? I Am 26 Now.

I have very good skin for my age. I am very careful with sunscreen (spf 70+ with zinc because I'm allergic to regular sunscreen) and I try to wear hats and sunglasses. I do have a lot of freckles but I don't burn because I'm half Italian (southern). ANYWAY, I know that preventative Botox is big and so is retin A, but before I invest all this money over a long period of time, I want to know if it will really make a difference. Can you REALLY look 26 at 36 or is it all a scam?

A: How to Prevent Facial Wrinkles and Look Your Youthful Best

Dear Misty F,

Aging of the skin is caused by a combination of genetics and environmental factors such as sun exposure, repetitive facial expressions, gravity, and smoking.

If you want to look your best, follow these basic steps:

(1) Wear suncreen everyday (SPF 30 or higher, blocking UVA and UVB)

(2) Minimize sun exposure

(3) Don't smoke

(4) Use skin moisturizer

(5) Use topical retinoids such as Retin-A to improve your skin's smoothness and complexion

(6) Use Botox

Hope this helps.

Warmest wishes,

Can Botox for Hyperhidrosis Increase my Risk of Infection in my Armpit?

I have been receiving botox for hyperhidrosis in my armpits. My next set of injections are mid-February 2012 -my 4th time but 2.5 weeks ago I had a large (apx 1 inch deep/wide) abscess drained in my armpit. I was left with a large cavity, which is now almost healed. Will botox injections into that area (once it is completely healed)increase any risk of infection and thus the poss of another abscess? Is botox compatible with post-abscess tissue? How long should I wait before gtg my injections?

A: Can Botox for Hyperhidrosis Increase my Risk of Infection in my Armpit?

Dear Rusti,

Botox works well for reducing sweating for patients with excessive sweating of the underarms (ie. axillary hyperhidrosis). The chance of developing an infection after Botox treatment is very small. It sounds as if your infection was unrelated to the Botox. You should be able to continue with your Botox treatments once your infection is completely resolved.

Any Way To Speed Up Absorption of Botox and Restalyne?

I had Botox and Restalyn. I have more wrinkles in much worse places and can't wait for this to wear off. How can I speed up the lessening effect of botox?

A: Restylane/Botox

Sorry to hear about your experience.  The restylane can be quickly dissolved; however, the botox will take time to wear off.  An in person consultation with a board certified specialist to determine what can be done to help your situation is highly recommended.  Sometimes, the areas that are now of concern can be improved without having you wait for this to wear off.
