I am concerned about the amount of fat I seem to have surrounding my navel, like a lump? and also a small indentation below my navel a little to the right. Also, the amounth of fat that is collecting in my lower abdomen seems to be increasing. I train for fitness shows and started 3wks post op but I was still 28% body fat, then got down to 16% for the show 10wks later and now Im up to about 21%. Could be my diet and training affecting the results? Is this normal?
Unfortunately it is not uncommon for people to get a small indentation after liposuction. This is definately a known risk of liposuction. Also, occasionally people have a little bit of fat around the belly button which is slightly more difficult to remove. I would go back to see your treating doctor. You can talk to them about doing a small "touch-up" in the area to help decrease the visibility of your issues. A small amount of fat can be removed from the belly button area and injected into the indentation to help smooth it out.
Also, large weight fluctuations may make the situation more noticable. When you are at higher body fat percentages, it will probably be more apparent.
When choosing doctors, it is important to look for a board-certified doctor with experience in the procedure you are receiving.
I am considering tumescent laser liposculpture. The doctor I am considering is certified by American Board of Laser Surgery (not plastic surgery) and claims that he performed 5000+ cosmetic surgeries. I have not found other doctors who offer combination of tumescent and laser hi-def liposculpture on Minneapolis, MN. I wonder if this doctor's certification is sufficient for me to both be safe (i.e. not die or get infection) and to expect good results (no lumps or uneven sides).
Board Certification in Plastic Surgery (by The American Board of Plastic Surgery) is important for a number of reasons. What this designation ensures, is that the surgeon has met at least the minimum training and practice requirements as set forth by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. Board certification has nothing to do with potential complications that may occur with any surgical procedure. However, it does indicate that the surgeon has been trained in proper surgical technique, is aware of appropriate safety measures and has been scrutinized by a panel of his or her peers in plastic surgery. Be careful, as there are many bogus "boards" out there.
What's tumescent liposuction and how's it difft from normal lipo?
Most plastic surgeons will utilize a 'tumescent' technique for liposuction. By definition, a 'tumescent' technique indicates that one is infusing roughly 3 cc's of a dilute anesthetic fluid into the subcutaneous/fatty tissues prior to removing 1 cc of fatty tissue.
Most plastic surgeons will uitlize a 'superwet' technique in reality, which involves injecting 1-1.5 cc of fluid for every 1 cc of fat removed. It is more of a 'marketing' terminology used today. Mostly, every surgeon will utlilize some type of 'tumescent' technique.
