What Should I Do for my Lips? (photo)

My problem is that i have a thicker center in my lips thats rounded, the sides are thinner. From the side profile my top lip sticks out further then my bottom. When i talk it sticks out vertically. (the roundness) I want to correct that problem and have my lips to be less flat on top (cupids bow) and more pouty. I was considering a lip lift but when i raise my lip it just looks to thick. What are my treatment options?

A: Leave your lips alone would be my expert opinion Photographs may be deceiving at times but I believe yours are true to opinion and the opinion is that you should leave your lips alone. Sometimes patients who have had Injections of fillers in their lips overtime forget what they looked like originally and strive for a perfection that is unattainable or misconstrued as aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The proportions of the face should match evenly and if you augmented your lips fuller you take this out, creating an unnatural worked on appearance, which is just not aesthetically pleasing. So it is my hopes that you take these answers in deep consideration and where you state "my problem is" you change that mode of thought to "my lips look nice". You do not have a problem at this point but you certainly may create one in the future if you do not take head to the majority of expert opinion. Best regards!

Can Lip Injections Cause Paralysis?

I read a story on this site that this lady got lip injections and ended up with paralysis. Is this possible and what could prevent this from possibly happening?

A: Possibility of lip paralysis In my extensive years of injecting experience and being a platinum sponsored surgeon from Allergan, which means I use a lot of injecting materials I have never seen paralysis in a patient. I did not read the story you read but I am guessing the patient may have had a local block in which the injector got local close to a nerve causing temporary paralysis. It is important to go to a skilled injector. While I have several nurses who work in my private surgical center I prefer to inject each patient myself. Being a surgeon allows you years of experience and knowledge of the facial anatomy as well as what you feel will be the most aesthetically pleasing for your patients overall features. Best regards!

Is it Possible for Injectable Filler to Still be in My Lips 3 Years After Being Injected?

I had Teosyal KISS and Fortelis Extra injected in my lips and upper lips area. Although it has flattened out, another doctor had injected widase to dissolve some of the material which created an indentation. Is it possible that the Teosyal and Fortelis are still in my lips because of the amount he injected orr was it replaced by my own collagen? Is this possible? Is it possible for it to last this long? What can I do to dissolve other than wydase?

A: Longevity in lip fillers from lip augmentation I typically only use Juvederm or Restylane for lip augmentation. These products are hyaluronic acid fillers like Toesyl amd Fortelis and typically have a life span of about a year. While this varies from patient to patient and seems to last longer after multiple injections, a three year period would be more then adequate for most or all reabsorption. Some patients may actually stimulate some collagen growth adding natural fullness while the product has already reabsorbed or scar tissue formation giving the appearance of fullness. I would speak with your original injecting surgeon and discuss your concerns, find out exactly what product was injected in each area and how much and then discuss possible treatments to address your concerns. With all fillers less is more, you can always add!! Best regards!
