How Can Reduce my Ear Size Without a Surgery
Dear patient,
There are several surgical techniques available to reshape ears, they are collectively called otoplasty. Whether it is a complex otoplasty or a minimally invasive technique all require incision. There is no non-surgical technique available to reshape ears or reduce ear size. Good luck. Dr. Kevin Sadati
i had Otoplasty ear pinning exactly one year ago and my ears are still stiff, is that normal? also the result is not what i expected, since the stiffness is still there does that mean the ears are still healing and i should see improvment after the stiffness goes away?
Otoplasty is an excellent procedure used to correct aesthetically unpleasing ears. Numerous surgical procedures are used to correct ear protrusion. The selection of procedures is based on the underlying cause of the protrusion. Some patients benefit from placing simple stitches in the ear cartilage to reposition the ears closer to the head, while other patients need cartilage removal. Often these procedures are performed in combination. With both techniques, scar tissue formation is normal, and helps to hold the ear in its new position. Scar tissue is most likely causing the stiffness which you are referring to. I would suggest not manipulating the ears with massage, etc to soften them, as these things may cause sutures to fail. I would suggest following up with your surgeon with any concerns. Good Luck.... Dr. Corrado
hi i am getting ready to get married in september of 2011, i have always been self concious of my protruding ears, i recently went to have a consultation on otoplasty with a local surgeon he took 3 minutes to talk to me and did not answer the questions i had, he especially made me more nervous by tellimg me i cannot have it done now to wait untill august to get the look i want for the wedding because 6 months later my ears would look the same! i am going to waste $6000 for 5 months of happines?
An otoplasty, if properly performed, should give you permanent results. Your ears will not grow back. There is a very small chance of recurrence (1-2%)
You will see the results very quickly once the obvious swelling goes down. By about the second week after surgery, you will look fine. You can even look good enough at one week to return to work or school. There is not that much visible bruising with this procedure after the first week.
Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who can explain the procedure and the recovery in great detail to you.
Best wishes,
Dr. Bruno
