I have been considering a breast lift, but am concerned about scarring and loss of sensation in the nipple. Today I found a procedure called the "Semielastic Scarless Serdev Suture Breast Lift". It appears that Dr. Serdev uses sutures to raise and secure the breast. I can't find any doctors who do this in the US. Couple of questions: 1. Does this really work, and is it practiced in the US? 2. How long do the results last? 3. Is the cost on par with traditional breast lift methods??
Thanks for your question -
In our Bay Area practice we frequently perform traditional and short scar / vertical scar mastopexy (breast lift).
The challenge with this procedure for many patients is the scar and plastic surgeons have been working for decades to find ways to minimize the scar while keeping the powerful and long lasting results of traditional lift techniques.
Unfortunately, no one has nailed a scar free technique. Suture techniques have been tried in other areas (facelift, buttock lift, etc.) Most of these techniques have been abandoned as reliable alternatives to traditional surgical techniques.
I would doubt that a suture technique would produce a long lasting change. In addition, the concept of suture techniques in breast lifts makes even LESS sense than these same techniques in facelifts because with many breast lift candidates you really have an excess of skin that won't change.
I hope this helps!
I've nursed three children and had a 70 lb. weight loss that have left me with lots of excess skin & sagging. Once I reach my goal weight, I'm interested in a mommy makeover that includes a tummy tuck and breast lift, but not augmenting my breasts. Do you think that's possible with how my breasts look? I'm happy with the size of my breasts when I wear a good bra (currently 38DD) but unhappy with how deflated & saggy they are without a bra.
Adding breast implants to a breastlift will help the appearance of the cleaveage area. However, implants to fill out and a lift to tighten the breast tissue means both are doing the opposite thing. So there is a higher complication rate with implants and a breastlift at the same time.
There are techniques to add lower breast tissue up higher into the breasts for a nicer look. I usually use the Graff/Biggs technique. This procedure entails rolling up, and tunneling your natural breast tissue upwards, and secured by a flap of muscle. The skin is then tightened to make the best appearance.
Not all plastic surgeons are familiar with these technqiues, so seek out multiple opinions.
Good luck.
Hi I really want a breast augmentation, i am 38 yrs old have breast feed , my children are now teenagers, no plans for any other children. I initially didnt want a breat lift but have realised i need one, but i am very scared of the scars. could i have a cresent style breast lift and implants??
I could see a periareolar lift instead of a crescent lift. A crescent would also leave a less than ideal scar do to what you what to accomplish. It will also not lift very much and the areola can stretch into an elongated shape.. A periarolar is a reasonable compromise and accomplish a fair lift. my website has some before and afters.
Note:
The periareola lift creates a round somewhat flat breast do to the purse string effect. The vertical short scar gives a conical look.
