Photofacial Burns 4 Days Post Op, Becoming Scabs. Is This Normal?

I have the exact size of the wand burn marks on my face. I had a photo facial done 4 days ago. There are the brown spots that I was warned about, but these seem like scabs now. Is this normal? I also had a few blisters pop up. I had no idea that it would take this long to heal. I called the medical spa and they said that this has happened before and if it gets worse call them back. Any suggestions? This does not seem normal!

A: Don't get services in a medispa with no doctors.

No this is not normal.  You are talking about tiger stripping.  This is a burn produced by an IPL machine with the energy setting too intense for your skin.  These often do heal with no consequences.  However, I urge you to be seen by a dermatologist for care for this burn to reduce the risk of scaring and hyper or hypopigmentation.

Am I At Risk For A Photofacial With Thyroid Problems and Medication?

I am going to undergo a laser photofacial treatment on my face ( cheeks mostly). I have a low functioned thyroid and take pills regularly to correct it. My question is: may thyroid problems be contraindications for laser photofacial? Thanks.

A: This just should not be an issue.

However, every patient undergoing photo facial needs to have the treatment adjusted to how their skin is reacting at the time of treatment.  For this reason, in my office, only the doctor performs the service.  Many offices have a nurse or even a laser tech performing the procedures.

I Used Retin A and an Exfoliating Pad 2 Days After Photofacial. Is That Bad?

I was not told not to use exfoliating pads or retin A after a photofacial and I did. Did I mess up everything I just had done? I had it done on a Monday, used Retin A on Tues. night and an exfoliating pad on the 3 day. Please let me know if I made anything worse!

A: You will recover from this.

I would advise that you lighten up.  You are beating up the skin excessively.  We advise no exfoliation or Retin A for a week after a photo facial.
