Am I A Candidate For a Hair Transplant Where I Have Scarring From an Accident? (photo)

I got into an accident 10 years ago, which caused scarring around my front hairline. Ive been wearing my hair parted to the side to cover up the scar tissue and bald patch, and I was just wondering if I would be a good candidate for a hair transplant on this area?

A: Hair Transplant for Scarring from Previous Accident

Hair transplants can be done to treat the baldness secondary to your accident, but grafts do not grow as well in scarred tissue and it is difficult to to achieve normal uniform density  that matches the rest of the scalp in a female patient. Moving the adjacent hair-bearing scalp after excising the scar would give you a natural result will total freedom of styling.

What Are the Chances of Unsuccessful Hair Transplant?

What ointments or drugs can be used to increase the success rate? What does one do to prepare for a hair transplant?

A: Chances of Unsuccessful Hair Transplants

It is very unlikely that hair transplant surgery will be unsuccessful when done by a good surgeon and his/her team. However some results are better than others. It is important that the patient is a good candidate for this surgery with adequate donor supply and quality hair. Remember, alopecia is progressive throughout life. Good health is important with any surgical procedure. Success will depend on the goals of the patient who will be the ultimate judge. That is why many of our patients prefer the Fleming/Mayer Flap which provides immediate results with normal, uniform density and freedom of styling.

How Can Women Treat Thinning Hair?

What are the possible drawbacks of a woman having hair transplant surgery for thinning hair?

A: Women Treat Thinning Hair

First of all a woman should have a medical evaluation to rule out problems such as hormonal or thyroid imbalance as a cause of thinning hair. Hair transplants are an excellent  way to treat pattern loss that we frequently see in females.
