I had lipo Sept. 09, and this was performed to remove slight wings under my arms. I am 5'6" and weigh 118 lb., but the result was less than desirable. I now have very loose and wrinkled skin that is very embarrassing, and cannot wear anything that reveals my arms. I can pull the skin up on my arm toward my armpit and gather about two or three inches, and my arm is literally thinner at the upper portion than at the lower portion. Is there any procedure that can fix this? Please help!
If you can gather that much skin, my guess is that you were probably a better candidate for brachioplasty (arm lift) than you were for arm liposculpting. Arm liposculpting can be a good choice for those with:
--Elastic skin tone and not a lot of excess skin
--Good muscle tone
-- Fat in their arms that is not excessive, and is localized in a one or more specific areas
If you don't have good skin elasticity and muscle tone, or you have a lot of excess skin, as you described, an arm lift is going to be a better choice. Scars are the greatest drawback of this operation, and will extend from the armpit to mid-way down the arm to the elbow, however, those with extremely saggy skin tend to find this exchange (scars instead of saggy excess skin) very worthwhile.
A tummy tuck removes stretchmarks from the stomach..does an arm lift remove stretchmarks from arms?? Thankyou
An arm lift can remove stretch marks from the arm if they are in the area where the redundant skin is to be removed. But if removing stretch marks is your major concern, you will not be happy with the trade off. In order to get a good result, an arm lift has an incision from the armpit to the elbow which is much more visible than stretch marks. However, if you are in need of an arm lift due to redundant skin and fat and are aware of the incision line, then yes another benefit can be the removal of stretch marks.
I know it depends greatly on the individual, but could you give me an idea of which Arm Lift scar position is favoured by most women, inner arm incision or incision at the junction of the inner and posterior aspects of the arm? I read that the skin on the back of the arm is tougher than inner arm skin and the scar may be pulled more centrally to the back of the arm. Is that a frequent complication? Thank you.
For a full arm lift (also known as a brachioplasty) the scars run from the elbow up into the armpit and often down the side of the chest to the bottom of the bra line. The scars can be placed in two positions - on the back side of the arm or on the undersurface of the arm. Different surgeons have different preferences. The more posterior scar is visible when the arms are down at the side while the scar along the undersurface of the arm are visible when the arms are raised. Since the scars usually extend down to the elbow they are usually visible even in short sleeves. For some reason the scars near the elbow (which are of course the more visible scars) take longer to "settle down" and can be thick and ropey for a long time . The scars near the armpit improve faster. This is frustrating as one would like the more visible scars to improve the fastest! Since there are significant scars from a brachiopolasty there should be a significant improvement in contour to justify the permanent scars.
