i did not finished using roaccutane. i took the medicine for only 4 months and because i haven't seen any improvement on my face, i decided to stop using it... my question is, can i use other acne medicine on my face immediately after taking unfinished roaccutane course? thank you..
Accutane is the strongest medicine we have for acne. However, if your acne is hormonal or there is another underlying reason for it, you may not get the results you want using Accutane.
Accutane is a retinoid. There are cream formulations of various retinoids, with Retin-A being the most famous. There are other ones that are even stronger, such as Tazorac. That can be an option for you, if your acne is not cystic.
Once acne is deep and or cystic, oral medicines such as antibiotics or aldactone can be used to control your acne.
Please get a consultation from a dermatologist. You really need a comprehensive approach if your 4 months of treatment did not yield any results.
Acne started on my face around 14 and remained so until about 17 when it spread to my entire back. Hair formed in a spiral pattern on my shoulder and the skin pigmentation under the hair discolored. I'm now 31, have gone through 9 months of accutane at the age of 26 and still have copious amounts of acne on the face and back. Topicals, soaps, creams, medications, scrubs and month after month of derm surgery have yet to work. It's destroyed my self confidence and outward appearance. What now?
Aside from treating your acne, I recommend looking at your diet for any possible trigger of acne. I suggest cutting out as much sugar as possible, and completely discontinuing sodas and diet sodas and artificial sweeteners. Even sugary drinks, such as fruit juices and sports drinks, should be avoided. Dairy can trigger acne and I recommend doind a trial off dairy completely and seeing how you do after about a month. Stick to home made meals, not from packages, as much as possible, and make sure you eat plenty of fresh vegetables. Try supplementing with omega 3 fish oils, get a good quality one from the health food store or online. Go for about 2000 mg of EPA + DHA per day (they should be able to guide you at the health food store). All this can be done in conjunction with any acne treatment you choose.
I've been on Accutane for about 3 months. Unfortunately, I got badly sunburned last week while playing golf. To make matters worse, I went running this morning in pants. Now my legs have many small blisters or little air pockets! What should I do? Have I caused permanent damage?
Caution should be exercised while on Accutane. Accutane works on the pilosebaceous unit and decreases the body's ability to epithelialize a wound during treatment. Avoid deep sunburns and trauma while on accutane.
