Lower Body Lift or Extended Abdominoplasty?

I had a gastric band placed two years ago and now I'm ready to shed my excess midsection. What is the difference between lower body lift and extended or circumferential abdominoplasty? What would you recommend based on the attached photo?

A: Body Contouring after Massive Weigh Loss

It is difficult to see if you have significant amount of tissue to be removed posteriorly, but from the photos I would say not.  I would recommend an extended abdominoplasty from what you have given me.

A lower body lift is just that, it combines an abdominoplasty procedure with a lateral thigh and buttock lift.  The incisions are circumferential.  Sometime a circumferential tummy tuck may be needed without doing a formal lower body lift.  These three procedures should not be confused with one another.  Some surgeons may use the term circumferential tummy tuck and lower body lift interchangeably.

Good luck.

Are Back Muscles Tightened During a Lower Body Lift?

One week ago I had a lower body lift. Everything is going well, but I am curious. My question is about my back. 2.5 years into dropping 200lbs I threw my back out. The chiropractor told me my lower back had no muscle tone. Fwd to now. The back pain is very similar to my stomach. A burning tightness in the muscle.

Is it possible the surgeon also tightened my back muscles during the procedure? If so, is that routine?

A: Lower Body Lift

No, there is no muscle tightening done in the back.  The abdominal muscles are tightened which may help with week back muscle and lower back issues.

There is only skin and fat removed from the back area.

Good luck.

Muscle Repair with Lower Body Lift?

Hi, I read something recently about the Lower body lift addressing "muscle repair" that had "fallen." I do know that muscle repair is often involved with a Tummy tuck to repair weakened ab muscles, but I did not know other muscles could be involved in a lower body lift. Could you enlighten me?

On the one hand it seems logical as the newly sewn skin needs to be tethered to something, but on the other hand, I'm not a doctor and that's what they pay you guys the big bucks for. Thanks in advance!

A: Lower Body Lift

A lower body lift consists of an abdominoplasty, outter thigh lift and buttock lift.  The tummy tuck portion consist of tightening the abdominal muscles.

This may be what you are referring to.

Good luck.
