This question is posed to doctors who perform fat grafting to the breast. On average how long does the procedure take, and what is your average cost? Secondly why do some board certified plastic surgeons perform the procedure in less than two hours and others take six. What is the reason for the huge discrepancy? Thank you for your time Doctors!
fat grafting is still not widely accepted by plastic surgeons but is becoming more popular:
- it has been used worldwide a number of yearsa
- if done correctly at least 60% of the fat should remain as living fat
- it has been used widely for gluteal augmentation
- it shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours but it depends on how much liposuction is being done and the cannula technique preferred
- there is no complete agreement on best technique
I am 4 months a 10 days from liposuction and fat transfer to the buttocks. I received 1100 cc's in each cheek. My problem is that I fear that I may have an infection. My right cheek still has a red bruise about the size of a silver dollar and it is hot to the touch and throbs in pain on and off during the day. The area around that bruise is numb. What could this be? This is my third time having this procedure and I've never experienced this the first 2 times.
Unfortunately infection can occur after fat transfer to the buttocks. You should see you surgeon immediately for evaluation. He/she should examine you to make sure everything is ok. Pain and redness are definitely signs suspicious for infection.

5 weeks ago I had a fat transfer to the right side of my face to conceal and indentation caused by a growth (nf1), however there was another growth that was cut into and I ended up with a large hematoma in addition to the fat that was transfereed. The area is still very numb and swollen, how long will it be before the swelling and brusing go and is there anything I can take to improve the situation?
I must tell you that this usually doesn't happen with fat grafting. I'm sorry you had complications from your procedure. It's not unusual to have some bruising and swelling a few weeks after your surgery. However, if you are having any symptoms you are worried about, I would recommend you see your plastic surgeon. I'm sure he/she would be very happy to examine you and make sure everything is ok.
