Is It Ok for Post Op Review to Be Done by Another Surgeon?

I live out of province from where i'm traveling to have my rhinoplasty done (24 hour drive). Is it a big deal to have the surgery, drive home, and have another surgeon in my home town do my post op (take off cast, make sure everything's ok)? Gets very expensive otherwise.

A: Rhinoplasty and Follow-up Care?

Thank you for the question.

Although I can understand your desire to have your surgery performed by a specific surgeon,  I think it will be in your best interests  to allow the same surgeon to take care of your immediate postop care. You are potentially compromising your end results if you choose to do otherwise.

I would suggest that you either make arrangements to stay longer or choose a surgeon closer to your hometown.

Best wishes.

Will a Rhinoplasty Alleviate Breathing Problems and Possibly Migraines? (photo)

I've wanted to have my nose done for a long time, not just because of how it looks. I believe that the inner workings of my nose are behind my issues - constant, painful headaches/migraine. I'd rate them 9-10/10 on the pain scale, usually in the front of my head, around the sinuses -Mouthbreathing!My dentist/hygienist always say my mouthbreathing causes shifting of teeth/dry gums, which have caused many problems I smashed my nose pretty good a few times when I was younger, not sure if I broke it

A: Rhinoplasty and Breathing Problems

Rhinoplasty and septoplasty surgeries are often combined to improve the appearance and function of the nose. If there is an airway obstruction diagnosed, it is likely that there are surgical procedures that can be performed to improve nasal patency. The appearance of the nose can be corrected through a rhinoplasty surgery at the same time. It is unlikely, however, that this will have an impact on your migraines unless there is some relationship between the migrane and a lack of oxygen. However, mouth breathing would likely easily correct this. Seek additional opinions about the migraine treatment, but surgery can usually improve the shape and function of your nose.

Best of luck,

A: Is this nose achievable with surgery?

I agree with my colleagues that the degree of change you want (considering the angularity) is very different than your current nose and is likely not possible with your skin and tissue quality. Nasal surgery should not be based upon the photos of others unless they are very similar to your existing features. Even then it is a challenge.  A successful rhinoplasty is a balanced result that matches your existing facial features. Not necessarily the ideal nose you can choose from photographs.

Best of luck,
