There is no simple solution to incorrect application of Radiesse. The vehicle dissolves away slowly, but the fibroplasia will probably limit the usefulness of surgical extrusion of the material after 1 to 2 weeks. Surgical excision would cause unnecessary scarring. Triamcinolone acetonide injections will reduce the swelling and fibroplasia but will not have a major effect on dissolution and may lead to fat atrophy. Radiesse dissolves away rapidly in some individuals, but the correction can last for years in others. Radiesse is excellent for volume loss correction when injected smoothly and deeply in areas where there is plenty of overlying soft tissue. In the infraorbital hollow, the cautious injector would consider a hyaluronic acid–derived filler so that hyaluronidase could be used in the event of any volume-related adverse events.
