A: Scar Revision can greatly improve the appearance of scars

Hello,

Scar revision such as Geometric broken line requires expertise but can significantly reduce the appearance of the scar. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon who has passion for getting the best possible results for his patients.
Hope this is helpful.

Laser Surgery and Permanent Makeup to Remove Burn Scar?

I have a deep burn scar that's over 14 years old on the left side of my face and neck (from cheek to neck). I went to a plastic surgeon and he said he couldn't do anything with a major scar but he recommended: getting laser procedure to smooth out the scar (maybe 50% improvement); if redness occurs after laser procedure use a permanent makeup. I'm wondering if this is feasible. I don't want to have laser surgery only to have redness where the scar was.

A: Laser treatment for burn scar can be followed by vascular laser to reduce redness

Fractional ablative lasers are gaining new ground in the treatment of burn scars. Fraxel Repair, DeepFX and other CO2 based lasers are helping scar victims achieve smoother skin.

A CO2 laser will cause redness and you will have to endure this until the skin is healed. But, following that, when all treatments are complete, you have the option of vascular lasers which can minimize and in some cases eliminate redness.

The redness is partially an effect of increased blood flow to the treated area which aids healing. All lasers induce some type of wounding from the heat and the body will increase blood supply to the area to assist.

The redness is caused by enlargement of capillaries in the skin and the vascular lasers will help shrink them.

Best Laser Treatment for Leg Scars?

I have a lot of scars in legs and knees. Can Laser surgery remove this?

A: Lasers for leg scars

I see you are in the Philippines. Your genetic background makes you more susceptible to hyperpigmenation after any trauma. Lasers can help, but only if they are done extremely carefully. A fractional laser such as the Fraxel laser can be used, though in your case I would suggest a test section to see what kind of pigmentation response you will get.

You don't say what the scars are from or if they are colored scars or white scars. This may be a deciding factor for your physician in choosing a treatment.

Recognize that any laser which has the potential to reduce scars will be a "hot" laser. All hot lasers can trigger post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so treatments for those with high melanin content (all Asians) has to be done with extraordinary care and often with a pre and post treatment program of topicals to suppress pigmentation.

The newest Fraxel laser with thulium laser wavelength is designed to treat both deeper and superficial pigmentation. I've not yet used this laser so honestly can't gauge response. Perhaps it will be advantageous for you to wait a while longer before deciding on a specific treatment.
