Are There Special Considerations for Liposuction on Asian Patients? I Scar Easily.

I'm female, 27,5'2'', 120 pound. I'm athletic, but all my life have had fat in my lower abdomen. I'm asian and have skin that scars VERY easily. I was reading on Realself that a doctor suggested VASER lipo since it worked better on asian patients "since they tended to have fibourus fat" What type of Lipo would work best for me? Are there any special considerations for asian patients? I've found someone sites that talk about "asian liposuction"--is there such a thing?

A: Liposuction on Asian Patients

The results that you will get with liposuction will be determined by the sureons ability, not the type of procedure that you choose.  The skin incision should be monitored to be sure that you heel well, but the end results for the liposuction will be determined by the surgeon's expertise and you following your surgeons post operative care.  Good luck!

I Have Excess Fat in my Thighs, Stomach, and Back. What Are My Options?

I overweight and I have a lot of body fat. I really want to get this done before I get married next year. My weight is about 230 and my height is 5'5 . I really need to get most of the fat off. How much would this cost me?

A: plastic surgery is not weight reduction surgery

Based on your current height and weight, I recommend losing weight prior to having elective cosmetic surgery. Once you have reached a stable weight, you will then be a better candidate for plastic surgery, such as a tummy tuck or liposuction. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon before considering any body contouring procedures. You may also want to consult your primary care physician for some help with setting weight loss goals and strategies.  Best wishes, Dr.Bruno

Can I Get Lipo Instead of Tummy Tuck? (photo)

I'm 30 y/o 5'4 127 lbs and have 4 kids. I dont have much bulging I just want my waist back, I have like 2 strech marks under my belly button and my skin is not wrinkly. I really dont want a tummy tuck because of the scar, I dont have any scars, but I also dont want lose wrinkly skin. Which would be a better choice?

A: tummy tuck may give better result

This is difficult to answer without examining you in person however if you are not prepared for the scar of a tummy tuck then liposuction may be better for you. I would consult with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon to see which procedure is best based on your skin elasticity and anatomy. Sometimes the best contour is the procedure which leaves more of a scar, but this depends on each patient.
