Is It Safe to Having Cosmetic Surgery if You Smoke Rarely?

By the time I will have a tummy tuck/breast lift, I will be almost smoke-free for a month. I smoke 1-2 cigarettes per WEEK. Are my risks similar to that of a non-smoker since I smoke so rarely, or am I still at an increased risk? I'm most concerned with necrosis...

A: Smoking and surgery risks

Smoking any number of cigartettes carries a higher risk of skin necrosis. Stopping smoking is said to help, the risk remain. I agress with everthing said here especially about stopping smoking 4-6 weeks prior to surgery. And it would be even better if you do not smoke after surgery.  Good luck

Uneven Breasts 7 Weeks Post Op.

I had a breast lift with augmentation and I am very concerned that they are still uneven. I was told to expect the implants (which are silicone gel) to drop at different rates, however the left breast has a very different shape, the implant seems higher and a bit harder- when I massage them it isn't as flexible as the right breast. It is funny because initially the right breast was much higher. Could the implant have moved? Is this a sign of capsular contracture? Is this correctable?

A: Still early to judge the results

After breast augmentation and lift and breast will continue to change for a period of 4- 6 months. It is only seven weeks since you had your surgery and the asymmetry from the photos you provided is not significant. I suggest you speak to your plastic surgeon and give it more time and follow his/ her advice.

Peri-areolar breast lift with augmentation- Not Happy

I had a peri-areolar breast lift with augmentation (silicone, 250cc, submuscular placement) 6 weeks ago. As you can see from the pic, the results do not look great. I had a hematoma under the right nipple which is resolving yet I am still bruised and feel lumpy. Assuming that will resolve, my bigger concern is that I did not get the lift I expected, my breast are not round and my left areola is oddly shaped (4cm x 5cm). Will a revision help? How soon can I get one?

A: It is too early to determine the outcome

You are six weeks out from lift and augmentation. I think you need to give it more time to settle. It takes several months to reach the final shape. In my experience, the breast will continue to change and improve over a period of 4-6 months. Your doctor will able to address your concerns. I advise you to follow up with him and take his advice.
