Can Cheek Fillers Such As Restylane Help Diminish Appearance of Undereye Bags?

I had thermage done when I was 23 and I went from being full faced to looking quite gaunt. As a result, I think it took a toll the structured support under my eyes. If I get an injectable filler, such as restylane, could this help my tired-looking under eyes? Or should I just get a really good under eye cream? I'm only 25. Thanks!

A: Restylane is great for lower lids

One of the first signs of facial aging is the loss of volume in the transition area between the lower lid and upper cheek. We call this area the tear trough. The outline of the orbital rim becomes obvious and the skin may even appear darker in the lower lid. The fat pads of the lower lid may also become more prominent.

Volume addition to the lower lid at orbital rim with restylane restores the youthful appearance to this area with no  downtime and the product lasts for a year.

It is a wonderful correction for those who need volume. It can also be a temporizing measure for those who need surgery but are not ready for it and want an improvement while they decide on when to move.

Seek out  an experienced board certified plastic surgeon to help you with this. All the best.

Will Restylane in Lips Last Longer the More Treatments You Get?

I've been been getting Restylane in my lips for almost 2 years now w/touch-ups (1/2-1/4 a syringe) about every 3 months. I'm so consistent that I've never seen much decrease in volume. I'm going to be away from my wonderful doctor, however for about 4 months since my last treatment.

I realize I'll lose some volume, but how gradual is it? And since I get treatments so often, does the product build up? I wonder if I can span treatments further apart -- more like every 4-5 months? Thanks so much!

A: lip injections with Restylane

You can wait longer than 3 months in between your lip injections with Restylane.  In fact the product can last 6 months or in some cases even longer.  You may want to consider trying Juvederm next time which can last from 6 to 12 months.

Best wishes,

What Will Work For Hollow Cheeks?

I have Hollow Cheeks, I had Fat Implants, but It didn't work. I used Restilyn which is a water based filler. I seem to get rid of it very quickly, so is there an alternative, which helps with my hollow cheeks and is more long lasting. I thought about sculptra?

A: treatment options for hollow cheeks

There are several options to restore volume into a hollowed appearing cheek area.  Probably the best option is to use your own fat.  This will require removal of fat from one area (ex. abdomen or thigh) and transfer to your cheek. Not all of the fat will survive, so you may need more than one procedure to get the best results.  Another non-surgical option is Sculptra, which is polylactic acid and will stimulate the formation of new collagen.  This requires a few injection sessions separated by 3-6 weeks each and allows for a gradual improvement in the area over time as you will not see the results immediately- the collagen will slowly regenerate. Radiesse is another injectable that can restore volume and stimulate new collagen formation. Both Radiesse and Sculptra can last from one to two years.

Best wishes,
