Could My Facelift have Reactivated Possible Biofilm Infection or Granuloma From Previous Filler Reaction?

Could face lift / eye lift surgery increase your risk of reactivating a possible biofilm infection or foreign body granulomas/nodules caused by a severe adverse inflammatory reaction to dermal fillers?

A: Possible reactivation of a previous infection with a facelift

It is possible that a facelift could reactivate a previous infection if the facelift is in the area of the previous infection.  It has been shown the ruptured appendix scars that are well healed and older than ten years can harbor previous bacteria.  I would think that the possibility of this happening  would be small.  You would have had to be infected with bacteria and not an allergic reaction.

Is It Necessary for the Surgeon to Put in Drains when Completing a Full Facelift?

I've had several consultations. One doctor puts in drains, one doesn't, and one uses glue.

A: Facelift and drains

Your question highlights the unique nature of plastic surgery. Unlike appendectomy or gallbaldder removal, which are standard procedures performed the same way by general surgeons, cosmetic surgery is individualized and multiple techniques can be used to achieve desired aesthetic results.

It is far more important to understand your surgeons artistic sense and see before and after photos than to be concerned if drains are used. Discuss this with your board certified surgeon at the time of your consultation. Use of drains should not be a criteria when deciding on cosmetic surgery.

I hope this was helpful.

56 Y/O Japanese Woman - Asian or Western Doctor?

I'm 56 Japanese woman. I would like to remove under eye puffiness and face lift together. Do you recommend Asian specialist Dr or any plastic Dr ? I hear that Asian skin is differ than Western skin. Few my Japanese friends did face lift and eye surgery by Western Dr and they looks not natural looks which I do not want to happen to me. Please advice this matter, thank you.

A: Asian eye plastic surgery

Any good qualified plastic surgeon can perform a good Asian blepharoplasty.  When you have your next consultation, take a photograph of what you want and what you do not want.  A number of plastic surgeons  like performing a lower lid cantopexy with their blepharoplasties.  This often distorts the lower lids.  Andrew Lloyd Weber appears to have this look.   Good luck.
