Maxillofacial Surgeon Vs a Plastic Surgeon to Inject Restylane in Under Eye Hollow?

I don't have terrible hollows under my eyes, but I have enough to where it bothers me, and makes me look tired. I found a Maxillofacial Surgeon that injects Restylane, since he does surgery of the face, I feel like he would be the best dr. to inject. However I'm confused whether a dermatologist or plastic surgeon would be better? I just don't want to do more harm than good! I am very nervous about "ruining" my face.. Please help advise me! Thanks!

A: Either Doctor can Inject Under the Eyes

You should be fine with any of those doctors injecting under the eyes, providing they are experienced at doing it.  In some areas of medicine more than one specialist is trained to handle certain problems.  This is one of those areas.

Big Mistake: Restylane in Lips from Different Doc: Uneven Smile, Strange Lumps

Needed a touch-up on my lips. Away from home, went to different doc. She used less than 1/2 a syringe, mostly in top lip & a spot on my bottom lip on one side. She said the previous resty had dissipated unevenly. There's now a big lump, a black bruise & fat lip there. I went back today, she saw the problem & massaged. Now bottom lip looks fatter, blacker & lump still there. Should I fly back to get this dissolved if it isn't better in a week? Have to be on TV in 10 days! I want my trusted doc!

UPDATE: A month ago I had Resty in my lips w/the above results. Luckily my TV appearance was delayed for other reasons (thank god), so I didn't dissolve. But it's been over a month & my top lip remains uneven & thick, not me. My regular doc always enhanced my natural shape but he's out for a month:( I have pictures for an appearance in 3 weeks & I'm not sure what to do. I don't look ridiculous but TV is unforgiving. I fear a tiny amt. of dissolver could make things worse. Advice from LA docs? Thanks!

A: Treat the Bruising and Swelling First

It sounds like most of what you are dealing with is bruising and swelling from the injections.  This can happen!  I recommend waiting a week and in the meantime, get yourself some Arnica homeopathic pills from the healthfood store.  These pellets are dissolved under the tongue 3 tiems a day and will help you heal more quickly.  Also get the Arnica Cream or Gel, and use that at least several times per day.  After a week you should be healed and you can better assess whether it is uneven or not.

Will Restylane in Lips Last Longer the More Treatments You Get?

I've been been getting Restylane in my lips for almost 2 years now w/touch-ups (1/2-1/4 a syringe) about every 3 months. I'm so consistent that I've never seen much decrease in volume. I'm going to be away from my wonderful doctor, however for about 4 months since my last treatment.

I realize I'll lose some volume, but how gradual is it? And since I get treatments so often, does the product build up? I wonder if I can span treatments further apart -- more like every 4-5 months? Thanks so much!

A: lip injections with Restylane

You can wait longer than 3 months in between your lip injections with Restylane.  In fact the product can last 6 months or in some cases even longer.  You may want to consider trying Juvederm next time which can last from 6 to 12 months.

Best wishes,
