Is it Normal for a Doctor to Inject Me Once on Each Side for Crows Feet?

This new doctor did one tiny poke on each side!? In the past, I've had little injections near all the lines (5 or 6 on each side)? Did I go to the wrong doctor or is this how some Doctors inject Botox for crows feet??

A: number of injection sites for Botox

If you are having your crow's feet area treated (sides of the eyes), this is usually performed with multiple (3-4) injection sites, with each injection delivering about 2 units of Botox. It is difficult to treat any area with just one single injection. Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist familiar with Botox injections if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,

Dr.Bruno

Does This Botox Dosage Seem Low?

4.5 months ago, I received 65 units of Dysport; it was my 1st cosmetic injection ever. The effects wore off noticeably within ~6 weeks. Today I received Botox from a different practitioner. I told him about the Dysport injection. He said I needed 12 units of Botox -- far less than the 25 or so I expected based on the Dysport results. He didn't ask me to move my brow when he assessed the dosage, but I did so anyway. Does this dosage seem too low to you based on m my history?

A: This Dose Does Seem Low

You mentioned about moving your brow, so i will assume this is the frown line.  A typical dose fro that area is 20 units of Botox, but some people have really strong muscles and may need more.  On occasion, I have seen people very sensitive to Botox, and they need a much lower dose, but this is very rare.

If you are referring to your forehead horizontal lines, the dose depends on how big the forehead is.  Again, a typical starting point is 20 Botox units, but for a high and active forehead, especially in men, it is not unusual to use twice that amount.  On the other hand, for a smaller forehead, in a woman, one might start out with half the dose.  Hope that helps!

Is It True That Botox Can Help with Depression and Bipolar Disorder?

I know that botox can be used to treat migraines, but I recently read that it can be used to help depression. Is that correct. I am bipolar, and the medication I take controls the highs really well, but I still have bouts of depression, although not as overwhelming as before. Can botox really help depression, or it just an excuse to have botox injected, and reap the cosmetic benefits under the guise of medical necessity?

A: Don't Use Botox for Depression

I do not recommend Botox for depression.  If you also have cosmetic areas to treat, then go ahead, but don't expect an anti-depressant effect.

Why not try a nutritional psychiatrist (you can find names online) who can help you nutritional and via supplements with the depression you are experiencing.  You may be experiencing side effects of the medication itself.
