Is It Possible to Combine Breast Lift, Thigh Lift & Tummy Tuck?

28 yr old female, with 3 children. I feel like I have a lot of excess skin in fat in my abdominal region. I am interested in a tummy tuck and inner thigh lift, as well as a breast lift. Is it possible to combine all 3 in my situation?

A: Multiple simultaneous elective procedures

Technically and practically it might be possible but your surgeon must take into consideration many factors including blood loss, post-op swelling and fluid requirements, anesthetic risks. post-op recovery requirements and difficulty. For example. early ambulation is very important after major procedures to prevent blood clots in the leg. Having the procedures you mention will all contribute to difficulty moving due to pain or limitation of use of upper arms. You also should consider the priority of your concerns. As a participant in the show "Extreme Makeover" in the early 2000's, we often pushed the envelop to do multiple procedure, but one factor I looked at including total surface area of operation was the length of the procedure being under 6-7 hours. It would appear that you should consider the abdomen and the breast and reserve the thighs for a secondary surgery unless the others took four hours or less.

Thigh Lift Scars: Vertical vs. Horizontal

i had a liopscution in May and planning to do thigh lift as i have saggin in the inner thigh and little sagging from outer thigh. i heard is vertical scar is bad as it's get wide and it's visiable as the horizontal scar which will be in the bikini area so it's not visiable and usually its good scar. so what would you recommend ? and also am planning to do tatto on the scar. so how long i need to wait to get the tatto on the scar ?

A: scar location for a thigh lift

There are two types of scars used for a thigh lift.  A horizontal scar placed in the groin crease is best for patients who have significant vertical laxity(loose skin which can easily be pulled upward).  A vertical incision along the inner aspect of the thigh from groin to knee is best used in you have significant horizontal skin laxity or looseness. The specific incision needs to be tailored to your specific anatomy.

I would add that the scars can migrate or widen from their original position; something patients should be made aware of before their surgery.

I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in this type of body contouring procedure.

What is a Thigh Lift?

I know what the intended results are but I'd like to know more about how this procedure is actually done

A: what is a thigh lift

A thigh lift involves removing excess skin of the inner and usually upper area of the thigh.  Often after significant weight loss, patients may have loose skin of their inner thigh area which may extend down toward their knees.  There are two basic types of thigh lifts.  One involves an incision which is located in the groin crease and removes the upper thigh skin primarily, this is referred to as a medial thigh lift.  Another type of lift involves more of a vertical incision which extends down the inner aspect of the thigh from groin to knee area.  This latter type of procedure is better suited for patients who have laxity or looseness in both the horizontal and vertical directions.  Usually a small drain is left in place under the skin at the time of surgery which is removed five days later.  Sometimes, patients may also require liposuction of the thigh area at the same time as the thigh lift.  Most patients will take off about one week from work for this procedure.

Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine which type of thigh lift is best for you and to determine if you are a candidate for this type of surgery.

Best wishes,

Dr. Bruno
