Procedure to Remove a Large Apron of Fat
I'm overweight, but have lost weight going from 400lbs. to 330. I'm 24 years old with good blood pressure, and no diabetes nor other health problems.
The better I get around my ribs, across my chest, and in my arms, the bigger my lower tummy gets. Lower body exercise is getting harder because of this apron of fat hanging. It even changes how I sit.
I want to get rid of it, but it's kind of heavy. How many pounds, or in general, how much can I remove from my body safely? How much would a procedure this large cost?
A: Panniculectomy to remove excess abdominal apronI would suggest a panniculectomy. This procedure removes excess skin and fat of the anterior abdominal wall. The conditions you describe, I hope, should be covered by most insurance plans; however, your insurance may require you to lose more weight based on your height. This number is your BMI. Not having seen your pictures, I would guess your surgical specimen would weigh between 50 and 80 pounds. For your case, I would suggest this procedure be perfomed in a hospital. Good luck with your weight loss journey. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
LBL, TT, or Fleur-de-lis Given 8" Horizontal Scar 3" Above Belly Button?
Had 1st consult. I had planned on LBL or extended TT, but surgeon concerned with vascularization of tissue above my belly button & below an 8" horizontal scar about 3 inches above my belly button. I had a WLS 19 months ago & lost 160lb. Vascularization concern due to lifting of skin b/w these areas, thus can't pull down my upper roll of excess skin where this 8" scar is at the bottom of it. After some discussion/options, decided fleur-de-lys best -my back area is not bad 4 excess skin.
A: Considering a bodylift with prior abdominal scarsHi Lisey, I would suggest a 360 bodylift. I would suggest this type surgery because it would remove the concern of vascularity. This procedure removes skin and fat from the central torso and should result in a flat abdomen and tighter lateral thighs. I would place the incision high on the pubic region to be sure to completely eliminate the 8 inch scar you describe. I believe your scar may have been from a gall bladder removal. Best wishes in completeing your weight loss journey. Sincerely, Dr Katzen
Should I Still Be Able to Squint and Form the "11"s on Day 8 After Botox?
It's been eight days, and although I see a 20% improvement, I can still squint, forming those 11s between my brows. She did two shots in that area, then one each over the arch and three on each crow's feet area on the sides of my eyes. Do I need to wait a bit longer, go back for more injections or accept that this is probably the way my body reacts? I paid by the area treated, not by the units, so I don't have any idea if she would retreat free of charge.
A: More Botox?Greetings~
Though most patients do respond after 8 days some can take up to 2 weeks (or more) to see the full effects. Each patient is different and can require a different amount of Botox (greater or lesser units, independent of the number of injection sites). It's quite possible, especially if you paid by the area and not the unit, that you may not have received a sufficient amount of Botox for that area. Depending on the policy of the office where you were treated, they may or may not do a touch up dose at no charge. Follow up with the office that treated you, especially if you still have significant movement between you brows.
Good luck~
Dr. Grant Stevens
