I am tired of getting injections every three months; what is the best long-term solution? What are the pros and cons of using Alloderm?
I have performed many Lip Augmentations with Alloderm (sheets, not the injectible form) and wrote a scientific paper on Alloderm compared to other types of Lip Augmentation materials. Alloderm lip implants last about 7 years but are softer and more supple, IMHO than other lip implants made of silasrtic or saline filled bags. IMO, Alloderm Lip Implants are the gold standard by which all other lip augmentation materials should be judged.
Does Anyone Know of Infections After Using Alloderm?
Yes, Alloderm can get infected. I've used it primarily for Lip Augmentation for about 15 years and have seen very few infections. These occur when the incisions, on the inside corners of the mouth, open prematurely allowing saliva to contact the Alloderm. Antibiotics, trimming the exposed Alloderm and re-suturing the incisions have all taken care of the issue.
I understand it is a piece of tissue, like collagen. could it possibly be used in the chin to bring it out a bit or under the eyes for undereye hollows?
I've used Alloderm for over 15 years for Lip Augmentation and believe that it's the gold standard for Lip Augmentation. I would not use Alloderm under the eyes or in the chin for Chin Augmentation. Alloderm would be to thick for the thin lower eyelid skin and would not have the augmentation effect, in the chin, that a Chin Implant would offer.
