I had a basel cell skin cancer removed from my back last summer and my dermatologist told me that Active FX would reduce the possibility of getting a similar skincancer on my face. In all the literature I've read about Active FX, I haven't seen this benefit mentioned. I'm 50 and fair-skinned.
When you think about it, it only makes sense. The skin on your face most that is likely to go through the mutation from pre-cancer to cancer is on the surface. Therefore, any resurfacing therapy is likely to reduce the risk and "nuke" the skin that is about to go through cancerous change. This is based mostly on anecdotal evidence, rather than large double blind studies. It's a hard thing to study because skin cancer takes years and decades to occur. I would not hold it out as "cancer prevention", but if you are having resurfacing for cosmetic reasons, it's an added bonus to know you are possibly avoiding skin cancer.
I saw my doctor on day 3; my neck is healing nicely, but my face is really scaring me. He gave me Locoid Lipocream and Prednisone, 3 days later and I'm still dark red, with dark red lines, and the skin around my eyes looks like it's blistering! I'm terrified!
The Active F/X is made by Lumenis. After 3 patients developed scarring from this device I refuse
to use it.Remember Lumenis employed unlicensed foreign doctors to promote and demontrate their devices.
As Gary Lask said a CO2 laser is aCO2 is a CO2 laser. I would stay from this device
Thanks for the question.
Results will vary from patient to patient and are dependent on several factors including the intensity of treatment, your baseline skin condition, and skincare regime. I recommend going to the Lumenis site and reviewing their before and afters to get a sense of what you can expect. Additionally, you may want to consult with your clinician to discuss expected outcomes, and likely results.
Warmest Regards,
