My doctor suggested that we use a surgical drain to help with the fluid post-op. I have done some research on these and from my understanding they are not generally used for this procedure (which he told me- but he has started using them and said its hard to turn back as he finds them to be much better). It is absolutely my decision whether I want it or not. He said it would help minimize a "mess" and can help get a better/flatter result.
Usually drains are not necessary when doing tumescent liposuction. However, if your surgeon has recommended the use of drains he or she may have a good reason and I would suggest you follow their advice.
I am considering tumescent laser liposculpture. The doctor I am considering is certified by American Board of Laser Surgery (not plastic surgery) and claims that he performed 5000+ cosmetic surgeries. I have not found other doctors who offer combination of tumescent and laser hi-def liposculpture on Minneapolis, MN. I wonder if this doctor's certification is sufficient for me to both be safe (i.e. not die or get infection) and to expect good results (no lumps or uneven sides).
Asking if you surgeon is Board Certified is an important question. Board Certification is granted by only one organization in the USA, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). These specialties include Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, and Otolaryngology (ENT), among others. The certification is only granted after a candidate has completed a several years long residency at an approved medical center, has been in practice for a period of time (usually two years) and has completed a rigorous exam process. Of the board certified doctors who perform tumescent liposuction, only Board Certified Plastic Surgeons routinely preform all of the options in body contouring - liposuction, tummy tucks, arm and thigh lifts, etc. To fully understand what your options are and the risks involved, I would suggest you see a Board certified plastic surgeon.
Is it normal to experience tightening and the "pins and needles" feeling on the area that was treated with Tumescent Liposuction, even after 4 weeks after surgery?
It is normal to experience tightening and “pins and needles” after liposuction. This is the result that your nerves are coming back to normal and this can even last up to 6 months.
