I'm 24 and fair skinned male who used to have acne and now has acne scars. They are mild, and not icepick. I went to my plastic surgeons office and was recommended to have 3 sessions of the Vitalize Peel for the scars, but I was also wondering about fine lines. I know I'm very young and I don't have much wrinkling but I see very early signs of it, mostly under my eyes. I know vitalize is supposed to make wrinkles better, but I would like to know if it would almost elliminate what I have.
All chemical peels work by removing the outer layer of skin and allowing the deeper skin layers to heal and produce new elastic and connective tissue components. In general, the stronger the chemical and/or the higher the consentration of the chemical, the deeper and more effective the peel will be. However, the deeper the peel, the higher the risks of compication from the procedure (longer post operative redness, and higher risk of pigmentation changes or scarring). Check with your physician and ask if you can see before and after photos of patients similar to yourself who have had the Vitalize Peel. This will probably be the best way to determine if your expectations are in line with what the procedure can do.
My dermatologist is offering A Peel. What is it? What kind of results are you experiencing with it?
Chemical peels are one in a series of skin treatments which can help improve the appearance of skin and help reverse the aging process (decrease fine lines, help even irregular pigmentation and improve skin tone). The procedure is preformed by applying a chemical to the skin - TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid), Glycolic Acid, Phenol, etc. The chemical will react with the outer layers of skin to dissolve these outer layers. After a period of several days to a few weeks the deeper layers of skin will heal, forming a new skin surface (epidermis) along with new elastic and connective tissue components including collagen. During these first few weeks the skin will be sensitive and delicate and needs to be protected from sun exposure and dessication.
i have never undergone a chemical peel treatment and im planning to have one this month. should i go for tca or glycolic peeling? i have dark brown and red marks on my face due to acne. pls help me.
Neither TCA or Glycolic Acid chemical peels will make the deeper type of acne scars disappear. The TCA will tend to penetrate deeper than the Glycolic Acid and therefore may be somewhat more effective with regard to the hyperpigmentation, but it also would carry a higher risk of scarring or hypopigmnetation. Given your skin tone, whatever treatment you decide to have, I would suggest you have your physician first perform the procedure on a small, less visible, test patch area to see how your skin will respond. Good luck.
