Can Cheek Fillers Such As Restylane Help Diminish Appearance of Undereye Bags?

I had thermage done when I was 23 and I went from being full faced to looking quite gaunt. As a result, I think it took a toll the structured support under my eyes. If I get an injectable filler, such as restylane, could this help my tired-looking under eyes? Or should I just get a really good under eye cream? I'm only 25. Thanks!

A: Restylane for baggy eyes

Thermage did not likely cause this problem. However, Restylane is very effective to blend in the bags with the cheek when injected by an experienced physician. It should last 6 months. Some patients have a hereditary weak orbital septum with fat protrusion that surgery would treat best. Therefore I would recommend finding a experienced in eyelids. Finally, I have been underwhelmed by eye creams, they don't really do much and you can easily spend the same amount of money as a procedure during that time.

Restylane Vs Juvederm

What should I ask my doctor before getting a Restylane or Juvederm injection? I don't want to look lumpy or unnatural. It's for naso-labial folds and my eye area.

A: Questions to ask doctor on Restylane and Juvederm

First you should seek a physician who is board certified in a specialty that is trained to do this procedure: otolaryngology, plastic surgery, opthalmology and dermatology. Next you should ask if they are experienced and comfortable performing injections in the eye area. What kinds of complications have they had and how were they treated, what was the outcome? Finally I recommend Restylane over Juvederm in the areas you want done. Juvederm is more hydrophillic, making it puffier and therefore better for the lips. Puffy eyes is not a good thing. Plus Restylane contains 20% more product, usually for the same price as Juvederm Ultra.
