Is the Position of Earlobes Changed After Face and Neck Lift?

I had a face & neck lift in August 2010. The position of my earlobes has changed. I cannot wear my earrings because my right ear peirce is further away from my face than my left ear. The earrings do not hang right and look odd.

My right earlobe is very stretched and is attached to my neck, it is still sore after 8 months. My left ear is a little stretched. I have very little feeling in my face at the sides of my cheeks and around my earlobes. I have scars completely around my earlobes.

A: Earlobe Changes after Facelift

You have developed a pixie-ear deformity. This can be fixed with a small procedure using local anesthesia. However, this was completely avoidable at the time of your surgery by planning incisions to keep the earlobe intact. Sometimes earlobes misbehave as they heal and later small revisions are necessary, but a pixie-ear should be prevented easily.

Is Neck Supposed to Be Wrinkled and Lumpy 9 Days Post-op Facelift?

Below ear and neck are very numb, neck is wrinkled and lumpy. Can this be normal in a 9 day post-op facelift. Will wrinkles go away? I had drainage tubes in right side for 1 week and believe that is why it is wrinkled still. Appreciate any feedback you might have and thank you.

A: Lumpy 9 days after Facelift

You are having a minor problem at 9 days and I believe your surgeon can guide you through this short term issue. Your Dr. can reassure you frequently and simultaneously the anxiety will diminish as the problem resolves. Hopefully, you were advised pre-op that this could happen.

Why Can't I Have Neck or Facelift as a Smoker?

I've had both upper and lower eye lid surgery, arm reduction and a tummy tuck. I am a smoker and am 51 years old. I've healed fine in all cases. Why can't I have a neck or facelift?

A: Facelifting in Smokers

Several surgeons have given very good explanations why facelifts in smokers are riskier. That is not to say you cannot undergo a facelift. You need to compromise on the expected outcome by reducing the incisions to avoid skin flap healing complications. Additionally, anticipate longer healing times and expect your surgeon to have you stop smoking for a short time before and after surgery. I have done facelifts in carefully selected and motivated smokers for many years. You will probably have good luck finding a surgeon willing to work with you.
