Technique for Juvederm Lip Injections? In the past, when I had Zyplast, the doctor injected it in the "channel" of the lips, along the lipline. This time, the Juvederm was injected, it appears, in the lip area below and/or under the lip line, and I have a bump and a bruise at each site. The bruising does not bother me, although I had a the dental nerve block, and I got a black eye! What bothers me is the lumps. The result is not a smooth line like Zyplast. It has been a week and it looks uneven and duck bill-like. I had one syringe for upper and lower lips. Thank you.
A: juvederm bumps, hyaluronidase

Both zyplast and juvederm are injected with the same techniques in the lips.  Both the channel (vermillion border) and the body of the lip respond nicely.  I have found juvederm to be incredibly soft and pliable.  You may find time is helpful to soften this result.  It would also depend on what type of juvederm has been selected by your surgeon.

It sounds as though you might have swelling.  Be patient but consider hyaluronidase with your doctor if this problem persists.  I think you really could come to enjoy this product just as you have your zyplast.

I hope that is helpful.  Thanks for raising this question for our community.

How Can I Reduce the Juvederm in my Lips?

I just had my lips done with Juvederm four days ago, and my upper lip looks bigger. I am not happy with it. Is there anything I can do to remove some of it? Please help.

A: swelling after juvederm

I would generally recommend careful observation.  For most patients, the vast majority of swelling will occur and maximize three days after injection.  You might find settling over the next couple of weeks that could result in a perfect result.

Having said that, hyaluronidase could be immediately used as an injection to clear excessive product, if that is the case.  I would speak with your surgeon and consider your options carefully.  It would be disappointing to remove product after you have worked so hard to get this positioned correctly.

Hope that is helpful for you!  Thanks for the quesion!

Swelling Above Lip After Juvederm in Nasolabial Fold, Is This Normal? (photo)

Hi I got 1cc of Juvederm in each nasolabial fold 5 days ago. I bruised a bit on the left side but have noticed that I have puffiness on each side above my upper lip, medial to the nasolabial folds. I've tried to feel where the juvederm is and it doesn't feel like there is any in the area of puffiness. But I'm worried that it's going to stay like this since I haven't seen any change yet. My smile looks really weird right now & I'm going back to the Dr. in 1 week for follow up but I'm worried.

This is very normal.  First, I would advise tincture of time.  This will likely settle.  Another very good option is to inject hylaronidase into the area treated and you will find improvement within 30 minutes.  Either way, this is temporary and you should be reassured.

I have been injecting and training for years.  I can tell you that I frequently warn injectors about this area because I have had the same trouble with my patients.  I now avoid this.  It occurs when the filler comes much closer to the surface over the muscle sphincter called the orbicularis oris.
