I've had bad under eye bags/lines since I was little but have been told that I'm ineligible for blepharoplasty(I'm 22 PMH anemia/asthma/hay fever/borderline diabetic). Can a chemical peel safely get rid of my under eye wrinkles? Also, are chemical peels safe for people with allergies? My allergies can cause my eyelids to swell up, crust over, and peel. I am also prone to styes(so I can't get fillers). Suffice it to say, my eyes are very sensitive.
Chemical peels can be very successful to resurface lower eyelids as well as other sensitive areas of the face.
I have used Phenol and TCA peels for years with exceptionally reliable outcomes. I have not seen any issues with hypopigmentation.
Consideration should be given to the following:
1.) Your overall state of health.
2.) Amount of sun exposure to the full face. Some patients have sun damage across the entire face. While they do respond nicely to any peel treatments around the eyelids, the entire face must be peeled to avoid an uneven appearance.
3.) Excess skin. While peels can really improve the texture and pigmentation of the skin, they are clearly not a substitute for surgical correction when necessary.
4.) Lasers can effectively produce the same result but might be more expensive. It can also be difficult to treat so close to the eyes when protective eye gear is used appropriately during the laser procedure.
I use both lasers and chemical peels and am very satisfied with both.
Best wishes,

Do chemical peels treat hyperpigmentation? What care should be taken when doing chemical peels for that condition?
I use peels on many of my patients who are undergoing facial surgery. I feel that if a patient is going to invest time and money in looking rejuvenated, their efforts should also be directed to getting the skin in the best shape possible. This starts with a high quality doctor prescribed skin care program that I personally design for each patient. I take into account the patient's skin type and their goals. After four to six weeks of pre-conditioning, a peel is performed. The type of acid used for the peel is selected based on the goals of the patient's. TCA is generally used to diminish hyperpigmentaiton or brown discoloration, as well as fine lines. Salisylic acid is used for acne prone skin. Glycolic peels can be used ni a series for over all freshening of the skin. Each type of peel can be mixed in varying strengths and subsequently will come with varying recovery times.
When can I resume exercise after Obagi Blue Peel?
Following a medium depth TCA peel, it is important that your body temperature remain normal. Heating as a result of increased activity, exposure to a hot environment etc, increases the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is especially true for individuals with darker skin. I typically tell patients to wait until all of the signs of redness and inflammation have resolved. This typically occurs by 2-3 weeks.
