What are the differences between Restylane & Juvederm/Juvederm Ulta Plus in lip injections? I’ve tried Restylane and had great results, debating whether to try Juvederm/Juvederm Ulta Plus. My main questions are: Which lasts longer? Which has a shorter down time? (I was pretty swollen about 2 days with Restylane) Which has the better track record with FDA and/or any other nationally recognized program? I know both are pretty much the same but does one tend to give a different look/result?
Hello,
Restylane and Juvederm are nearly identical. They are different brands of the same product "hylauronic acid". I have used both of them interchangeably and have not noticed a difference. Within each brand there are slightly different models such as juvaderm, juvaderm ultra, and juvaderm ultra plus. Each step up has more molecular crosslinking and therefore theoretically lasts longer.
All the best,
Dr Repta
Are there certain products that I should avoid on my lips after augmentation? When can I start wearing lipstick again?
Hello,
Usually lip balm and staying away from excessively hot or cold foods is the only thing uou need to do. Depending on the method of lip augmentation, antibiotics may also be needed as part of your post op care.
There are a handful of different options available for lip augmentation including:
- fat grafting
- silicone implant
- restylane/juverderm
- goretex
It is best to start with restylane/juverderm and get an idea of how you would like your lips to looks. If you do not mind getting additional filler every 6 months or so then you can continue. If you would like a more permanent effect you'll have to discuss fat grafting or silicone implants. They all have pros and cons so discuss them candidly with your plastic surgeon.
I Had Filler in my Lips 8 Days Ago but They Still Seem a Bit Big, Will They Go Down Anymore?
Typically, most of the swelling following lip injection with fillers disappears after several days. By 7 - 8 days in most patients, virtually if not all of the swelling related to the injection component should have resolved. That means, what is present may very well represent filler.
If in another week you still feel that your lips are too full, I would contact the physician(?) who performed the injection and discuss your concern. If the filler was a hyaluronic acid like Restylane or Juvederm and if you feel that your lips are not for public consumption, you can actually have an injection of a material to dissolve some of the injectable. This should, however, be performed by someone with considerable experience in this technique.
