Who Should Perform Sclerotherapy - Dermatologist, Plastic Surgeon, Vein Clinic?

Who is the best choice for sclerotherapy or any other type of vein removal...one of the "Vein Clinics", a dermatologist, or plastic surgeon?

A: Sclerotherapy qualifications

Dermatologists and vascular surgeons are usually considered the experts in sclerotherapy.  There are many factors that determine which would be best suited to handle a particular case, like size of vessels, depth of vessels, association with pain, level of experience and the methods that are used to treat the veins.

Sclerotherapy Weird Results

I had one sclerotherapy treatment on a small patch of leg spider veins about a month ago. Sometimes it looks almost totally faded, other times it looks almost as bad as before it was done. Is this normal?

A: Leg Veins persistent

Did you wear compression stockings after the procedure?  Sometimes, it takes up to two months to see complete clearance, particularly if you are darker skinned.  Did you have a touch up session?  Give it more time and one day you'll wake up and realize that all the veins are gone.

Can Sclerotherapy Treat Facial Veins?

I have a vein under my eye that I would like treated. This is a single larger vein, not spider veins.  Is facial sclerotherapy a possiblity?

A: Laser works as well for facial veins

To treat a larger, "non-spider vein" around the eye, usually sclerotherapy is the best method. Sometimes a laser can work just as well if not better, depending on how close to the eye the vein is located. But a complimentary consultation is recommended to find out your best option. As far as general broken capillaries on the face, laser definitely does the trick. Either Cutera's Laser Genesis and/or Limelight treatments.
