2 Days Post Op - Not Sure Yet...

ORIGINAL POST

Hello, I just wanted to share my experience...

$6,110

Hello, I just wanted to share my experience because I appreciated having everyone here's advice. I just turned 40 and wanted my hourglass figure back. I have never been overweight and had a overall very good shape for my age. I am 5'6" and about 128 lbs. Just developed some fat around the middle section in the last couple of years.

I really liked my doctor and the staff where I had my smartlipo done. However, I really feel this proceedure is not advertised truthfully.

I had my entire mid-section done. Upper and lower abdomen, love handles and the small of my back. The proceedure took about 4 hours. I have a high pain tolerance and still found all of it very painful. I am two days post op and still in a lot of pain. I tried the two tylenol 500 for a while but the pain was still too bad to really function so I asked my doc to call in a pain prescription tonight.

I am VERY swollen and the compression garment is just so uncomfortable. Sorry, I sound like a whiner! lol. I just want other's to know what they are getting into. I will be glad to share my results along the way and when I'm up to it post some before and after photo's.

Hang in there! I had 3 areas done - chest, stomach and flanks. The first week was really painful and uncomfortable. I asked myself many times why I had done this to myself. I became depressed after a couple of days and wondered if i would ever feel normal again. On the 8th day my body turned a corner and made remarkable progress over the next two days. I am 18 days post op and am thrilled with the results. Its going to be a while before I can really see the full result but so far I am thrilled. Just hang in there - it will get easier. Remember that you have had a laser completely pulverize the middle part of your body. The skin is detached and your body is trying to figure out what to do about it. Just keep trusting - it will get better.
Dear result oriented, Wow, thank you so much for the words of encouragement. This is all so strange! lol. To think, we do this to ourselves! How long did you wear your compression garment? I am one of those people who cant wait to get out of tight clothes into my pj's every night. It's driving me crazy. haha It's so tight around my hips and butt that I feel bloated and constipated. I look 6 months pregnant! Hey, Thanks so much! Jillian40
Hi Jillian, Hope you are feeling better! I had mine done in Philadelphia about 12 weeks ago. I will say I had no idea how painful this was going to be. Hang in there and don't get discouraged. I am not happy with my results I think the doctor was a bit too agressive and he took too much out. I went for a follup up and they said it might take up to 6 months to fully heal. I'm still sore and lumpy and just keeping my fingers crossed that this will be worth it. Keep me updated on your progress.
Thanks for sharing your story and being honest. I wanted to get my back upper and lower stomach done.
Dear laws02, You are welcome. I am now going on 5 days post op. I have been feeling much better and actually went out for the day yesterday. I am sore but the doc gave me vicoden and it seems to have made a big difference. Now I am starting to itch but from everything I read this is good and normal. Best wishes on your decision! Jillian40
So then was it still not worth it? I think 2 days post-op is too soon to judge. I am about 7 weeks past my back/arms/flanks and 2 weeks past my upper/lower abs and lateral sides (and flanks touch-up). I have been wearing compression for all this time (though I stopped wearing the arm bolero about week four). Yes, it is annoying, especially as I do not have a long body so sitting in the ab binder makes it bunch. But I feel so much more comfortable and when I don't wear it the swelling is more pronounced. I made the investment to order a Design Veronique compression bodysuit and also some garments from Macy's, to compress when I don't feel like wearing the binder. It's tough to hide under some clothing! I am very happy with my results overall though my arms aren't as reduced as I'd hoped. Over time I am noticing gradual improvement in the swelling...the flanks and upper abs seem to be the worst area for this on me.
Hello Chrysalis13, I'm sure 2 days post op is too soon to tell anything but I just wanted to tell people that I think the proceedure is advertised incorrectly due to how much pain etc. I have the same problem you do with the garment binding in the abs. It gets really sore sometimes and I still look about 4-5 months pregnant. I can tell none of it is a fat roll. Seems like I am swollen from the inside. I would really like to think I can burn this garment at 2 weeks out! The thought of wearing it longer makes me want to whimper like a baby! lol. From what you say it sounds like I am going to be swollen for a very long time. Bummer...it's finally summer. I do feel better but still sore. Tomorrow is my 1 week post op. Sorry but I have to ask, do you have problems feeling bloated and gassy all the time?
Hi Jullian40: Well I am 3 weeks post op as of yesterday. I went in for my two week check up and the Dr. said I no longer have to wear the compression garment. I was really relieved as I was sick and tired of it. HOWEVER! I went without it for a few hours and before too long I had it back on.... The skin throughout the area I had done began to throb and it felt like all the nerves were firing at the same time. Not only that but I swelled up a bit and I did not like that. So... back into the compression I went. I ordered an under garment from Under Armor that is a much lighter compression garment - That one seems to do the trick just as well so I have been alternating between them. I recently discovered Arnica Montana. Its a homeopathic remedy that helps with muscle soreness and with healing skin. I started taking it on Saturday and I have to say that I am noticing a big difference with the skin discomfort. I am using a topical version on the entire area and a homeopathic pellet that I place under my tongue. It may be just coincidence that it seems to be working. What i am experiencing may be normal for 3 weeks out but i am going to keep taking it just in case. Has anyone else had success with this? Seriously hang in there - the first week was so miserable for me that now I look back and almost cant believe i made it though. I have to say that taking the photos yesterday morning I compared them to the before and I am absolutely thrilled with the results! I saw my hip bones poking though my skin for the first time that i can remember!
