RealSelf.com corporate information

What is RealSelf.com?

RealSelf.com is a social media and review site for anti-aging and personal beauty.

We empower consumers to share experiences and help each other find the right anti-aging & personal beauty solutions: products, treatments, therapies and lifestyle choices.  RealSelf Reviews address everything from a spa facial to a face-lift.  RealSelf Expert Answers are offered by dermatologists, surgeons, sytlists, and beauty profesionals

48 million U.S. consumers are interested in products and services that reduce, prevent, or reverse signs of aging. RealSelf.com brings transparency to the consumer experience of navigating loosely regulated, often over-hyped choices.  RealSelf.com helps consumers find solutions that are really "worth it."

Problem we're addressing

Consumers find it challenging to get a clear understanding of the benefits offered by products or services claimed to have “anti-aging” effects.

Our understanding of consumers is that they go online to get more information, but become frustrated by the repetitive marketing messages, always-positive testimonials, and lack of real consumer guidance and voice.

Just like travelers who rely upon reviews to choose the right hotel, consumers evaluating expensive and unfamiliar anti-aging products and services want to go beyond the brochure. They place a premium on authenticity, multiple opinions, and true experiences.   Early indications suggest that the reviews on RealSelf.com are trusted and deliver on these needs.

Funding

A few months ago we closed our seed financing round with top-tier angel investors.  Leading the round are 3 internet media executives:

  • Richard Barton, CEO of Zillow.com and former CEO/founder of Expedia
  • Bill Gossman, CEO of Revenue Sciences
  • Nick Hanauer, Partner at Second Avenue Partners (former Chairman aQuantive)

Competition

There are thousands of sites, from spam to paid placement guides, which in some form cover anti-aging treatments, products, or therapies.  A few legitimate one’s include more.com, realage, and DailyStrength.
