Bell's Palsy in April, now synkinesia. Facial muscles permanently contracted. 1st symptoms of BP was burning sensation in mouth. After DX, rapid advance to continuous metallic taste. Botox reduced some tightness. Sense of taste also changed; not better or worse, different. Responses say Botox cosmetic not responsible for metallic taste. Why not? If Botox blocks messages to nerves, could it not also block messages to the facial nerve affected by the BP& responsible for the disturbance in taste?
I had 24 units to my forehead today. Right side is now numb, heavy, slower movement. No rash or allergic symptoms. I also -when injecting -had a metallic taste in my throat and later back of sinuses. I reported the metallic taste immediately to doctor. The taste is still there. Went back to clinic 2 hrs later with the symptoms. Basically the doctor passed it off told me to go to ER, But I seemed fine. So I looked it up and others have done this. I am an ER RN..I do not panic.
I received Botox injections from a board-certified plastic surgeon and love the results I got. I plan to get more. However, I, like many other women who are asking this question, noticed a change in my sense of smell and taste about a month after receiving the shots. There may be something to this, docs.
