When Scottish singing sensation, Lulu, graced the stage of American Idol on Wednesday's telecast, I could barely believe my eyes. At 58 years old, she looks like she is in better shape than any of the female contestants who are praised for their youth each week.
Lulu shined in black spandex pants (which I could barely look good in myself, in my prime as a dancer at the tender age of 17) and a black sparkly corset top that showed off her buoyant cleavage. She towered effortlessly in black stiletto heels, and she put her adolescent counterparts to shame with her confident style and downright fabulousness. Her skin glowed, and her smile eased across her very hip, neutral shade of lip gloss as she belted out a tune as if she were merely a school girl. She was the term “ageless” in motion.
I found an old interview The London Independent conducted with Lulu, and the singer and actress discussed anti-aging procedures and health, stating,
"Of course women should do Botox if they want to and how marvellous it is that people can now have their teeth whitened. But I think the media obsession with photographing women looking awful is out of control. It's cruel and unnecessary, and often touched up.
When I was young I always wanted smaller boobs because I think clothes hang on the shoulders better than they do over curves. But you know, I thank God for what I've got because the most important thing in life is your health. Without it, nothing matters."
